Eddie Fisher, whose smooth voice helped him become one of the most popular singers in the nation in the 1950s and who was known for his highly publicized marriages and divorces to some of the most famous Hollywood starlets of the era, has died. He was in his 80s.
Fisher died Wednesday in Berkeley of complications from hip surgery, his daughter, Tricia Leigh Fisher, told the Associated Press.
Between 1950 and 1956, Fisher recorded 25 songs that made the "Top 40," including 19 "Top 10" hits and four that reached No. 1.
Fisher's boyish good looks and natural charisma also helped him land roles on television shows and such feature films as "Butterfield 8," "Nothing Lasts Forever" and "Bundle of Joy."
But it was his failed marriages to Debbie Reynolds, Connie Stevens and Elizabeth Taylor that many remember Fisher for best. He also reportedly was involved with Judy Garland and Ann-Margret.
"All those romances took too much energy,"

I thought that he had died years ago. I’ve certainly not read anything about him in years.
He’s Carrie Fisher’s Dad. She has severe bipolar disease, bad enough that she’s had delusional spells. It’s often inherited - my guess is she got it from him. He seems to have had the typical bad judgement/impulsiveness/giftedness that goes with it.
I am sure he was told it would be a routine operation.
R.I.P. to Eddie. Pain back in the day when Taylor left him. Lots of painfull shufflin’ with high-profile relationships. He seemed to be a good dude. Rest well.
That’s sad. I wouldn’t be caught dead in Berkeley.
Apparently Eddie Fisher disagreed.

He was trying to get that operation done before Obamacare told him he was too old to have it...sorry Carrie...now you can sue the doctor and put him out of business...that is the Obama way
I feel a strange disturbance in the force.
Carrie didn’t seem to like him too much. He did put her mom through a hellish divorce by having an affair with someone she thought a good friend, Liz Taylor.
Carrie, shall we say, has a lot of “issues” (bipolar will do that to you) but she can show a scathing sense of humor.
On reading her father’s tell all book, Carrie said, “That’s it. I’m having my DNA fumigated.”
Good excuse!
But if Princess Leia is is Luke’s sister, that would make Eddie Fisher ...
My mother is 96 years old and she still hasn’t forgiven Eddie Fisher for what he did to Debbie Reynolds.
RIP Eddie.
Eddie had 32 Top Ten hits——in his bio, he said the money rolled in like a tidal wave. Liz got lotsa expensive gifts.
“Pain back in the day when Taylor left him”
Ask Debbie Reynolds-Fisher about the pain of an adulterous spouse making a fool of himself (back in the days when it wasn’t socially common to be public about it), humiliating and leaving her with 2 little kids
That’s what ruined his career- thinking with his schwanz and humiliating and abandoning his family
