In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
antecessor\an-tih-SESS-er\ noun
one that goes before
Example sentence:
Literary critics hailed the first novel as a brilliant and groundbreaking follow-up to famous antecessors in the genre.
Extra example: "The relentless show-biz blitz by Gov. Bill Richardson, and all the movie- and TV-shooting it's brought to our state, will be a big part of his legend . Before Richardson's initiative, antecessor Dave Cargo was beckoning to Beverly Hills." -- From an editorial in the Santa Fe New Mexican, July 25, 2009
Did you know?
"Antecessor" may remind you of "predecessor," its synonymous and more familiar cousin -- and there's a good reason for that. Both words ultimately derive from the Latin verb "cedere," meaning "to go." "Antecessor" ultimately derives from a combination of "cedere" and the Latin prefix "ante-," meaning "before." "Predecessor" traces back to a different Latin prefix, "prae-," which also means "before," combined with "decessor," a "cedere" descendant meaning "retiring governor." Cedere" has many other descendants in English, including "decease," "necessary," and "succeed." Descendants of both "ante-" and "cedere" include "antecedent," "ancestor," and the verb "antecede," a synonym of "precede."
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

I hope Odonnell wins, i don’t think it’s wise for the GOP to trash her, but i do understand their concerns about her “issues”. you know damn well if a dem with her ISSUES were on the ballot anywhere, we would be screaming blue murder about them. i can’t condone changing that tune just bc she’s on our bench. I also watched the clip with Rove and don’t think he was throwing a hissy fit or nearly as worked up as people on the threads made him sound. i did see Dana Perino’s reaction and agree that she outed herself as a RINO supporter.
Good luck and God-speed through the operation ...
(Technically speakin’, of course , only de instrument is operatin’ in-patient, and de operator is operating out-patient, and de patient is operating out of de patient ‘cause de patient ain't in de patient when the operator is operatin’ in de patient from out of de patient with de instrument in de patient ....)
Whyisatexasgirl readin this impatiently?)
ridic

(Hmmmn. Robt struggles to figure out what is the anticessor to xsex’s request for Vastie’s gender clarification and number by asking “Are you naked yet?” )
(Robt looks forwards to answer to Vastie’s response: “No, I am politely waiting for ladies to go first ....)
Let me know when they have software to wash your genitals.
A little old guy just walked into Starbucks and he looks just like the little Dove Creek pastor from Florida that was going to have the Koran-burning ceremony. LOL!
hope he doesn’t whip out a lighter!
LOL. He actually did. He went out on the patio and started smoking cigarettes - which gave me a GREAT marketing idea that maybe some of our militant smokers could fund: Cigarettes rolled from Koran pages. It would be a fun and self-destructive way for smokers to express their feelings about islamofacists.
Some lawyer from Australia has already done that, comparing Bible pages to Koran pages with grass clippings. It’s on youtube and yes, he was fired.

But instead of a suit, he's wearing shorts and a t-shirt that looks sort of like this:

Except instead of black it is light blue and with the little hand gesture that looks like either sign language for the letter "Y" or "hook 'em horns".
And that is what walked into Starbucks and then went outside to smoke.

You might have learned this in law school, but the twisting of the due process clause is new to me.
That hand gesture is the headbanger salute.
even knowitalls like you can learn something new every day i guess ; )
Yes. Sadly what we most often learn is the regret of living in a world filled with knowlesses.
some chance!
oh i know what i wanted to ask you about! whats with the harrassing the latina hobag reporter?? LMAO!
that was hilarious.
Apparently some shrewish American “jouralists” informed her (and the NFL) that she was being sexually harassed.
(My bet is it was someone from ENNBEECEE, because they ran with the story)
