In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
antecessor\an-tih-SESS-er\ noun
one that goes before
Example sentence:
Literary critics hailed the first novel as a brilliant and groundbreaking follow-up to famous antecessors in the genre.
Extra example: "The relentless show-biz blitz by Gov. Bill Richardson, and all the movie- and TV-shooting it's brought to our state, will be a big part of his legend . Before Richardson's initiative, antecessor Dave Cargo was beckoning to Beverly Hills." -- From an editorial in the Santa Fe New Mexican, July 25, 2009
Did you know?
"Antecessor" may remind you of "predecessor," its synonymous and more familiar cousin -- and there's a good reason for that. Both words ultimately derive from the Latin verb "cedere," meaning "to go." "Antecessor" ultimately derives from a combination of "cedere" and the Latin prefix "ante-," meaning "before." "Predecessor" traces back to a different Latin prefix, "prae-," which also means "before," combined with "decessor," a "cedere" descendant meaning "retiring governor." Cedere" has many other descendants in English, including "decease," "necessary," and "succeed." Descendants of both "ante-" and "cedere" include "antecedent," "ancestor," and the verb "antecede," a synonym of "precede."
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Here is my example with today's WFTD.
Ignoring the sage advice of antecessors of the conservative movement like Ronald Reagan, the establishment RINO leadership of the NRSC has reportedly decided to take its toys and go home now that its chosen candidate was ousted in the primary.
Report: National Republican Senatorial Committee Wont Fund Christine ODonnell (Updated)
Tea Party Express Responds to NRSC
No pushing at the door please!
Happy Humpday Everybody!
Only
days left until BO's replacement is sworn in.
are you naked?
Get to class you slackers! I've opened a new classroom, but Dave forgot to get the gradebook from xsmommy. So if you're looking for a grade you'll have to ping her. Secret Garden and Tioga are usually pretty generous with the plusses if you compliment their shapely legs, so you might try submitting your homework to them instead. My secret for getting extra plusses on my A+ from xs will remain a secret between me and her, so you're on your own if you want her to review your work.
No just having to post from home before I leave this morning. I’m taking my dad to the hospital for an in-patient procedure on his heart this morning.
i will say a prayer for him.
mucho gracias
please correct the adjectival-noun gender and number agreement. thanks ; )
I hope the leadership wakes up and realizes we’re tired of Dole, McCain, and Scozzafava and we want real conservatives.
I left out Crist, Specter, Graham, Chaffee, and every other go along to get along type that they endorse.
The Dear leader’s poorly concealed contempt for the people and his obvious Marxist leanings reveal him to be the disastrous distillation of Clinton, Carter, and his other progressive antecessors.
Have fun storming the Castle, boys!
As soon as you correct your Capitalization. ;-)
From your keyboard to God’s monitor.
Last time I went to my doctor’s office, as he told me of how much more difficult it is becoming to run his business thanks to Obamacare, I got the distinct feeling he used my tongue depressor on one of my antecessors.
Antecessor
I don’t know how this is even possible unless Mom’s sister was a lot closer to the family than we realized.
When I said “in-patient” I misspoke. It is an “out-patient” procedure, though they will put him out under ansesthesia for whatever they do to jump-start his heart to get it back on proper rhythm.
That sounds scary. I'd rather be awake for a procedure I might not wake up from.
funny, though you wrote in-patient, i read it as out-patient.
