Harry Reid is from Nevada, so he’s familiar with gambling. Still, the Senate majority leader is taking a heck of a risk by asking his fellow Democrats to vote on an immigration bill so close to an election. Specifically, Reid said today he may attach the Dream Act to the defense reauthorization bill.

What’s the Dream Act? It is legislation to offer a citizenship to illegal immigrants

From the story, it would grant citizenship to anyone who graduated from high school, passed a GED or served in the military.

Just great, go to school at US taxpayers expense and graduate, or take GED tests (are they given in Spanish?) and pass and you become a citizen. I might agree to the military part if they serve more than a basic enlistment and have an honorable discharge after, say, five years of service.

He’s just pandering. The bill was already in grave danger due to “don’t ask, don’t tell” elimination.

So attaching a DOA measure to the bill only ensures (1) that he looks good to voters in his state that feel the same way he does about this; and (2) that he won’t get a Senate Defense Authorization Act.

As to the amendments-to-amendments question, the answer is yes. They’re called “second degree amendments”.

We have illegal immigrants serving in the military? How is that possible?

Good question. I suspect that there are legal immigrants in the military but no illegals. I can't imagine they would allow enlistment without checking.

“Can we start reversing all this terrible stuff next year?”

Maybe, but probably not. We aren’t likely to have the votes to override a veto by nitwit - but we can sure stop the process in its tracks! At the very least, we should be situated a whole lot better for damage control. And hopefully to build momentum for a GREAT 2012!

Just another ploy by the lying Dems to stuff a defense bill with socialist garbage so they can claim that Republicans voted against the military.

Last week the Las Vegas Review Journal published a record of Sharron Angle’s votes when she was in the assembly. Some of the votes don’t make sense for a conservative if you take everything at face value.

Further review and understanding of the ENTIRE bill shows that she was always true to her conservative principles.

And then there’s the possibility that they were once here legally, but have stayed past their time, illegally. So, it’s possibilities to break our laws, for personal gain, all the way around!

Then who’s gonna clean hotel rooms?

Americans. Including the 15% that are unemployed.

And the other percent (10%??)who are part of the dole class. (like the 20 year old girl with ADHD who says "I really don't favor work" while getting a full disability ride on SSI courtesy of the State of Oregon / FedGov.).

End "Section 8" housing and a lot of people who sit around smoking weed are going to have to go get jobs. Ditto for food stamps, that's another wildly abused program.

We can't keep importing uneducated serfs, getting 10 years of work out of them, and then supporting them and their children for the next 5 generations on the dole.

We still have the ORIGINAL class of people who were brought in to do agricultural work. Many of them are unemployed, on drugs, and in prison. Would they really be worse off if society reorganized so that, having failed to take advantage of the educational opportunities that the USA gives to all citizens, they are 'encouraged' to work in agriculture.

There is nothing wrong with agricultural work. Everyone over 50 in Oregon did it as kids and teenagers.

At least regain control of the the House (and, dare I dream, the Senate) and grill the hell out of the heads of various regulatory agencies, Make Obummer’s foot soldiers sweat under the pressure of some investigations.

Check out the latest hot pop culture couple: Lady Gaga and Senator Harry Reid, the Nevada Democrat and majority leader.

After winning eight MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night, including one for her collaboration with Beyoncé on “Telephone,” the pop star urged her “Little Monsters,” as she calls her fans, to call Mr. Reid and encourage him to schedule a vote on repealing the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

“Gay veterans were my VMA dates,” Lady Gaga tweeted to her 6.2 million followers Tuesday, letting down her poker face. “Repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. CALL HARRY REID to Schedule Senate Vote.”

The political paparazzi were thrilled as the colloquy unfolded in the Twittersphere.
Using both proper hash tags and handles, Mr. Reid wrote: “@ladygaga There is a vote on #DADT next week. Anyone qualified to serve this country should be allowed to do so http://bit.ly/9ucdIj #nvsen.”
Mr. Reid had already announced on Monday that the Senate would next week take up the annual Pentagon policy bill, which includes a provision that would allow the Defense Department to end the policy. But his office said he was more than happy to hear from Lady Gaga.

“His tastes trend more towards Wilco and the Killers,” said Jim Manley, Mr. Reid’s spokesman. “But the provision is facing fierce support from Senate Republicans next week so he’ll take support anywhere he can get it.”

While it is unclear if Mr. Reid or a staffer sent the tweet, Mr. Manley said that the senator absolutely knew who Lady Gaga was.

“He’s very conversant in pop culture,” Mr. Manley said. “Let’s put it this way: The first magazine he reads each week is People.”

LADY GAGA & REID EXCHANGE TWEETS ABOUT DON’T ASK DON’T TELL

In Reid’s response, the Nevada Democrat shared a link to his blog that showed he was already planning a vote on formally ending the Clinton-era policy.

“@ladygaga There is a vote on #DADT next week. Anyone qualified to serve this country should be allowed to do so,” Reid wrote.

The back and forth culminated with Gaga retweeting Reid’s post and thanking the senator, who is locked in a tough re-election campaign.

“God Bless and Thank you @HarryReid, from all of us, like u, who believe in equality and the dream of this country. We were #BORNTHISWAY,” Gaga wrote.

“It’s the right thing to do. Come back to Vegas soon!” Reid shot back.

I wouldn’t be opposed to this IF ... the applicant had to have a college education to apply -

And made his application thru a U.S. consulate in his native country...
