A gynaecologist is being sued for branding his patient's name on to her removed uterus.
Dr Red Alinsod claims the unusual act, using a laser burning tool, was simply a 'friendly gesture' because the female patient was a 'good friend'.
However, Ingrid Paulicivic, a 47-year-old hairdresser from California, was not so impressed.
She alleges the branding was done for 'no medically necessary purpose or reason' and that she somehow suffered burns on her legs while the uterus was being marked, according to her complaint.
Her lawyer Devan Mullins called the branding 'inexcusably bizarre behaviour', adding that the 50-year-old Dr Alinsod was 'fooling around and having fun'.
Dr Alinsod told The Smoking Gun website he wrote Mrs Paulicivic's name on the uterus because he 'did not want to get it confused with others' but admitted it was not standard practice.

This story makes no sense. How did she know about it? Did he hand her the uterus after he removed it?
What a wierdo. Probably loosens the bolts on wheel chairs too.

So, he removed it. Then he put her name on it. How does that hurt anyone? I know it’s weird behavior, but who got hurt here?
Apparently her. It burned her legs! LOL!!
The gynaecologist provided the couple with about 50 digital images, Mr Mullins said, including photos showing the doctor writing on the uterus, as well as pictures of him holding the organ after ‘Ingrid’ was branded on it, one inch high and five inches long.
Mrs Paulicivic’s husband is also named as a plaintiff in the lawsuit which states he was ‘permanently injured and damaged’ because of the lack of intimacy between the couple as a result of the hysterectomy.
Lawyers got hurt. No cash flow, pain.
I wonder how she even knew, unless he told her, then she went all Sokelow on him.
A strange one like this will resonate with jurors, I bet.
On a follow-up visit in which she complained about the burns on her legs, photographs of the procedure were produced including the ones in which the doctor was inscribing her name and a photo of the name on the uterus.
Um.... Ok. Not SOP, but not that bad.
Let’s say, for instance, he had removed the uterus, branded the patient’s name, and put it back in....
Or branded her name and then took it home...
Or cooked it for dinner...
Or inserted said uterus into a female pig to create a species of pigmen...
Then she might have legal standing.
Once it is taken out, it becomes the property of the doctor and he can do what he wants with it???
Nothing says "good friend" better than an awesome uterine tattoo.
I bet one day in the not-so-distant future companies will pay women to advertise on the inside of their uterus so the future child(ren) that grows inside will become loyal to that brand of product. It sounds completely ridiculous and absurd to say such but today’s absurdities are tomorrow’s headlines.

That's not true, the uterus, and any other body part removed by surgery, still belongs to the patient. They paid for the procedure and didn't give up any rights to the parts. This doctor was an idiot. What if the pics get on the internet, which pictures have a habit of doing regardless of good intentions. This woman could be the subject of untold ridicule if that happens. I think this doctor needed to get permission before branding the name on the uterus and needs to have his a** sued off.
Tort reform needed. Is John Edwards taking this case? Will he create a voice for the uterus?
