Obamacare won't be repealed (GOP likes the power they will inherit)
The New Republic ^ | 9/08/2010 | ak267

Health care reform repeal activist Michael Tanner complains that none of the Democrats who voted against the Affordable Care Act have signed on to repeal. Meanwhile, Republicans are decidedly lukewarm:

Among the six Republicans who have not signed either discharge petition are senatorial candidates Mark Kirk in Illinois and Mike Castle in Delaware. This is particularly surprising in the case of Kirk, who once vowed to “lead the effort” to repeal the health-care law.

I’ll take Palin over anybody that’s even thought about running at this point. Let me guess, you’re one of the 1% that voted for hunter last time around....

Well I love these threads that keep saying that there is no difference between the parties and that the Republicans won't repeal the health care crap. It isn't going to be easy but voting out the Democrats in a big wave will send a message to both sides. Remember Obama will still be president and can veto any bill, that's why the defeat has to be significant to send the right message. If they still don't get it we have to do it again in 2012.

They won’t have any power after they’re thrown out of office.

The folks in Washington don’t seem to realize how PO’d the people are out here.

Most folks dont know how po’d they are gonna be when they start getting their “company benefits” package this month. I was informed today that my company is dropping most plans for Anthem and prices will be increasing $40-100 a month for coverage.

Absolutely no votes for non-repealers!

If they won’t repeal, what good are they?

I assert that it would be better to have a CommieCrate than a non-repealer!

The ‘majority count’ consideration Does Not trump uselessness!

Sure, we ARE going to win 100 seats this November. Senate, House and Governors. But. It will NOT change things.

I can't remember the FReeper's name, but he deserves immortality for this quote:

"If voting could change anything, they wouldn't let us do it."

Well, this is history we’re dealing with, mass movements of hundreds of millions of people. It’s hard to impact that directly, and the effort of trying to even move the ship a few degrees in a different direction can be very frustrating. It may well be that we have to hit the iceberg.

BIG BUMP to your post.

Every since the 8/28 rally, there’s been an increase in posts hoping to sew discord on FR. Same thing happened in 2008.

A conservative president with a conservative majority Congress can do (and undo) a lot. A conservative Congress in November is the start.

Thank you again.

No sarcasm needed - your first line was dead right!

If this is not a plank in the 2012 GOP platform, Obama wins another term.

Indeed so. THAT is an awesome quote.

Thanks!

I will say he is wrong though...

Getting rid of Murky in AK and The dolt in UT and maybe beano in DE. THOSE are elections where votes DO matter.

It is just HARD to get rid of a McCain when only a loser like used car salesman JD runs.

This is a big reason why Castle needs to be defeated. And O’Donnell needs to make it known that his refusal to repeal Obamacare was his undoing.

Great opportunity to make a point.

They will “FIX” it. Make it a kinder, gentler socialized system.

I wish it would be a civil war. But a majority HERE will be telling us to sit down and shut up and go along with it.

Just like they did for every damnable BUSH nonsense.

I have reached the same conclusions. Not sure what to add other than I wanted you to know you aren't alone.

Even more damning is the fact Kirk flat-out lied during the primary and signed a pledge to the Club for Growth he would co-sponsor legislation for an outright repeal of Obamacare. Kirk himself said he would "lead the fight" to do so.

Mere weeks after winning the primary, Kirk threw that promise under the bus and wouldn't even sign the letter that all the remaining Illinois GOP congressmen had signed asking our state A.G. to block Obamacare from being implimented in Illinois. He now says he won't co-sponsor legislation to repeal Obamacare even if Republicans regained BOTH houses of Congress and could pass the bill.

Those facts make it all the more laughable when Kirk cheerleaders tell us we can "trust Kirk" to oppose cap n' trade because of some token "promise" he made during a primary.

I think the problem is that when the rats get way off the reservation, like they are now, the public is revolted and you get a major swing to the center right. That’s all well and good, but you get a huge influx of squishy moderates into the party and soon you hear the calls for the “big tent.” The Republican party’s own success all but guarantees its subsequent failure.

The only solution is to change the paradigm. That’s why I wonder if the tea party, which is decidedly independent, can become a viable third party by vigorously opposing the republicans where possible, but uniting with them against the socio-communists where necessary.

This might give them the chance to grow and develop, and to demonstrate in the field that CONSERVATISM WORKS, thereby attracting new converts.

Thanks for the kudos.

I think the ONE hope we can try, is that since this election may be TWICE as many new bloods coming into office, we MAY be able to get them to pull a MUTINY on the old guard and truly govern.

I mean the old guard ARE spineless cowards. If these freshmen will JUST ACT and not try to play nice for committee seats and be a FORCE, these so called moderate leaders WILL back down. That IS the problem that we have with them, so why not TRY and make that problem that weakness OUR advantage?

A thought anyhow...
