That is one big tumor! Prayers for them.

Identified with a guy who was psychotic and planned to murder his wife and child?
The original OP is right. This movie was a slap in the face to “paranoid” heterosexual white men.
It was a liberal movie making fun of white males and this was before CA really imploded.
Shot during Clinton admin and making fun of white male defense workers. i.e. they were making fun of people who are a lot like FR’ers.
“Douglas, 65, is now undergoing radiation and chemotherapy five days-a-week every three weeks to rid himself of a walnut-sized tumor at the base of his tongue.”
That is a big tumor especially where it is located.
And the article says that it is a late stage four cancer but he has a 80% chance of beating it.
That doesn’t compute, IMO.
I had not seen the movie since it came out. I had forgotten all about the Duval Character. Watching it now, that is the best part for me.
I love the overall theme of the movie though - both the Douglas story and the Duval story. I love how he gets his life back and learns to stop enabling his wife.
Wrong. Watch it with an eye toward socio-economics and the buggaboo of the day, corporate downsizing.
I am amazed at how stupid people are. “Oh I love that movie.” It was making fun of conservatives and whites and not in a nice way.
Douglas and his old man are big libs. I hope he recovers but he has always been a BIG contributor to the DNC.
Even a lib can make good movies. I saw Wonder Boys yesterday and thought it was a fun film. Hope that he recovers. My mom had oral cancer. And while she is having a hard time recovering, is cancer free.

>>The movie was making fun of white men. It was a liberal movie.<<
Yes, but the message has turned 180 degrees as time has passed. A lot of people, to one degree or another, empathize with the Douglas character. Especially the “99ers”. And I think a lot of guns have been sold to them the last couple years.
He is an amazing actor, and I don’t care what his political views are at all.
Ad Al Pacino, Jim Carey and Robert Duval to the list.
The latest failure was when I took my husband to the doctor for terrible, persistent pain in his upper thigh. The doctor told him it was tendinitis. I told him to go back in and the tell the doctor to guess again. My husband refused, mainly because he was happy to hear that it was nothing serious. A year later, when he went for his physical, he told the doctor that the pain had gotten worse. The doctor ordered an x-ray and had the nurse call us on New Years Eve to tell us that it was a bone tumor. That same doctor was treating some friends of ours. He retired this summer and the friends chose a new doctor. That doctor found that their daughter, who is nine, has a 17% curvature of the spine and needs immediate treatment, that the other doctor missed. I could go on and on and on. My family has had more missed diagnosis (what's the plural of that word?) and wrong diagnosis (sp?) than right ones. Some have been fatal.
The guy didn't plan to murder his wife and child. He only wanted to see the girl for her birthday. It's a classic case of a man being bludgeoned by the system and fighting back. If he was intent on killing innocents, why did he have a water gun at the end of the movie, instead of the real thing?
The only ones hurt or killed were thugs (gang-bangers, neo-nazi). Otherwise it was inanimate objects being the object of his attacks.
sounds like the kind of cancer my son in law just got thru treatment for. his dentist found it after months of doctors treating him for throat infections and other stuff. he had a really hard time with the treatment, had to have all bottom teeth extracted before radiation.
“Sadly with many cancers symptoms do not present themselves until its too late.”
APPARENTLY he had pain, coarse voice, dry mouth for a while and has smoked and presumably drunk for decades.
The movie was making fun of conservatives and not in a nice way. He was a psychotic Reagan voter. Conservatives avoided the movie when it came out because it was attacking white male conservatives.
Douglas money and other liberals in Hollywood helped a elect a muslim to run and destroy your country. So far he is right on track. Your country will never be the same again. Period.
They have filled the military, govt, intel with muslims and muslim sympathziers who are leaking intel back to the Taliban and Al Qeada to kill American troops.
21 American boys killed in the last 48 hours. Keep supporting Hollywood.
She should be furious with him for smoking.
Who were you angry with? My husband had the best doctors available, they couldn’t determine that he had metastaic melanoma as there was no outside evidence. It was stage 4. It is what it is.
“I am amazed at how stupid people are. Oh I love that movie. It was making fun of conservatives and whites and not in a nice way.”
Right you are. It was made during the “angry white male” scare campaign. It suggests that we are all just a traffic jam away from going nuts.
As opposed to the sympathetic treatment of Hispanics? Drive-bys with innocent bystanders shot. What were Douglas' targets in the film? Fast food, a phone booth, a golf cart, a construction site that snarled traffic...the only person he kills is Frederic Forrest's nut-job "right winger," and that was self-defense.
