A New Mexico Game and Fish officer shot a 225 pound bear Wednesday night, after the bear attacked and killed a goat in Ruidoso Downs.
A 14 year-old girl stumbled onto the attack as she was trying to feed the family's horses and goats.
According to Harv Twite, his daughter saw a bear attacking one of the family's four goats and ran to the home screaming for her dad to call a vet.
Once Twite learned the details, he called 911 and proceeded to the corrals armed with a pistol. The bear had again attacked the goat. This time, the bear stood on its hind legs and charged the daughter, before Twite could get to the attack site.
For protection, the daughter had picked-up up a 2x4 board, and began swinging and screaming at the bear, who finally loped off and went over a nearby fence.
Authorities from the Ruidoso and Ruidoso Downs Police Departments, as well as a wildlife officer, tracked and killed the bear two hours later.

Time for cabrito!
This is America. The little girl should be charged with SOMETHING!!!!!!
Or maybe we should charge the Dad with something? Yeah, cool!
Amurika! F- Yeah!
(Most every news story ends with “no charges expected” these days. Here on FR people in the forums almost always demand that somebody be charged with something!)
NM list PING!
(The NM list is available on my FR homepage for anyone to use. Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list. For ABQ Journal articles requiring a subscription, scroll down to the bottom of the page to view the article for free after watching a short video commercial.)
What moron lets his daughter go out, let alone unarmed, after a 225 pound bear?
If you feed the bears properly they won’t attack your steenkin goats...
The goat got the bear’s goat.
She was trying to save the pet goat. She did the right thing, though, when the bear charged. Make yourself as large as possible and have a weapon in hand.
A new sport bear hunting with a 2x4.
Meeting on Bear Kill LimitThe largest of more than a dozen public meetings on a proposal to increase the bear kill limit forced state Game Commission members to come up with a last-minute strategy on how so many eager New Mexicans would get a chance to voice their opinion.
Hundreds of people from all over the state traveled to Albuquerque Saturday [August 28] to speak on the Game and Fish Department's contentious proposal, which would up the bear kill limit by 80 percent over the next four years.
More than 240 people asked to speak on the matter. In the end, about 30 people were allowed to speak.
On one end, dozens of ranchers and hunters approve of the proposal, saying that bears are major predators that kill their livestock and affect their livelihood. There are even some who say the increase is too modest.
On the other end, there are those who fear the increase, which would change the current bear kill limit from 406 to 733, will decimate the bear population and have long-term negative effects on the state.

LOL...... also have a female cougar that hit the electric fence at the old Manzano Weapon Storage Area at Kirtland AFB in NM. 28,000 volts in the 3rd fence in ......and the cat was after a bunny that had been zapped earlier.
That one is a rug mount on the wall in the den . Burn mark on her right shoulder where she touched and left rear paw where it exited.
albeit we were not after a mule deer ....we were setting off remote charges of a block of C each in training once and one of my troops had stopped for his lunch while setting the charges. He left his trash on the shot and left back to where we set em off for the training scenario....... We were watching each shot go and shazam there goes a good size buck flying through the air. He was about maybe a yard from the shot when we set it off.
Twas ugly......:o)
Ran out of Claymores?
Plenty of C if ya snap off the back yet.....:o)
