Happy 80th birthday to Sean Connery, the real reel Bond
Baltimore Sun ^ | 08.25.10

Posted on 08/25/2010 10:13:04 AM PDT by Perdogg

You can't escape it: as I'm typing this post a newscaster just referred to the murky death of a member of the British Secret Intelligence Service as a "James Bond mystery." On Sean Connery's 80th birthday I want to note the vigorous, inspiring post-Bond career he forged with terrific work for legendary directors like John Huston in "The Man Who Would Be King," Brian De Palma in "The Untouchables," Fred Schepisi in "The Russia House," Philip Kaufman in "Rising Sun" and Steven Spielberg in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade."

He’s one of those guys who can be sexy without even trying.

I enjoyed this Connery flick:

Ed Harris is downright disturbing as a serial killer in a smaller role.

The best 007 movie; Thunderball.

My favorite Bond movie.

Frankly, it is a movie I’d love to see re-done with a nice budget.

“It all went downhill after Dr. No..the scene when Ursula Andress walks out of the ocean, in the white bikini...nothing ever topped that, IMHO..”

I agree was just a kid and that was the coolest scene I ever saw.

Please do not speak ill of God's great gift to humanity. Perfect people are not always perfect privately. While I will not acknowledge any fault, real or imagined, in the celestial personage of Sean Connery, I do recognize that certain people may be unfamiliar with the magnitude of his genius and his enlightened spiritual status. This can be misinterpreted as having a pissy, cranky or arrogant personality much like that of the old man on the corner who throws rocks at children and puppies.

Some lowly types are just not in a position to understand perfection.

The good news is that for most of us, the older we get, the less we care about what we look like.

But that “people of Wal-Mart” stuff proves that some can go too far the other way. ;)

“And you can turn off the charm Mr Bond. I’m immune.”

And she was. ;-) Although many of us were not quite as immune to the charms of Ms. Honor Blackman back in those days...

Sean Connery, one of two reasons "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" was a blockbuster and "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" was a blob of poop in the toilet bowl of Hollywood.

It’s sorta like with eyesight when one gets older - If you can’t see the dirt on the floor does it mean that there is none:) So, yes, there is good news for us out there.

Funny! I think Churchill would be amused that most of the population under a week old look like him.

I saw it (Zardoz) when it came out. I thought it was pretty silly (especially the clothes) bit it worked ok, especially given the budget. Much better was Outland, just a couple of years later. It was a futuristic remake of High Noon.

I know I did. I'd like to burn all those photos under 12 months. I had three chins and cankles, stick a cigar in one hand and a glass of brandy in the other — could’a passed for kin. Thank God I was just saving up for a major burst of height and became skinny. If not, I think I'd have told the hospital they made a mistake had I been my mother.
