Todays headlines announce the final withdrawal of US combat troops from Iraq. So, Im wondering: when will we see a victory parade? The US has a tradition of celebrating victories in war by parading troops in major US cities. Certainly, US service members deserve to be recognized and thanked for their sacrifice and victory. Will the President organize such a parade? Will he be on the reviewing stand to receive the salute? If this parade never happens, what does this say about our President? If this parade does happen, how will the anti-war left and MSM react? I think the Presidents decision on whether to organize and attend such a parade places him between a rock and a hard place. I further think that Americans should demand a parade. I look forward to reading your comments and insights. Thank you.
The war was won some time back. Obama born on third thinks he hit a triple.
When will he remove troops from South Korea?
If we don’t see something within the week, I saw we FReepers get on the ball and do it our damn selves.
I’m sure it will come as soon as he can spin it as being responsible for the victory. After all, he drafted the plans for withdrawl when he was President back in 2007...
Isn't there an Obama administration quote about how you can't actually "win" a war?
Or Germany, Italy and Japan. They have been there since 1945
Does this mean that any more casualties we suffer in Iraq (this is just the removal of “combat troops”) will no longer tally on the “Bush’s fault/Bush’s war” war dead list as compiled by the pravda-Media?
This is a rhetorical question, right?
Didn't Bush already do this?
Indeed. A parade would be a highly publicized vindication of Bush's surge strategy, which 0bama and the dems opposed. Yet, 0bama seeks to blame Bush for all of the country's woes. It sucks to be 0bama.
“If we dont see something within the week, I saw we FReepers get on the ball and do it our damn selves.”
The Tea Party should do this. This is about as American as its going to get.
No. I'm curious about FReepers' answers.
Also, I think we should insist that 0bama answer the question. The troops deserve a parade. Also, it puts 0bama in the hot seat. If he attends a parade, it's an impicit admission that "Bush's war" was a success, and he loses more support from the anti-war left. If he publicly declines to organize or attend a parade, he looks unpatriotic. Either way, he loses. Force him to answer the question.
Obama will simply take the credit for the successful conclusion of the war and bringing the troops home. That’s it.
The troops will move out and the Iranian proxy hoards will move in for good. The violence has already started.
I'm sure that's how 0bama and the MSM would spin it. However, imagine the reaction of the anti-war left watching 0bama presiding over a military victory parade. They dislike the military and loath the Iraq war. He'd lose more of his base.
Something’s wrong. The Regime is too quiet. Do you think maybe we won?
The pullout was negotiated by President Bush.
You don’t really expect the maoist to celebrate that now do you?
Other than noticing that I typed “saw” instead of “say,” I’m still pretty positive about this idea. Whoever it is, FR, Tea Party, the Mickey Mouse Club.... someone needs to do something.
I need to find out when some soldiers are coming through my area so I can organize something. Not sure what, how or with what resources, but I want to do SOMETHING.
Both president Bush and President obama said that a parade will never happen as this is a different type of war. I am surprised that people have not heard of this before. It is stunning for FREEPERS to not know this. FREEPERS are the smartest people I know but they screwed the pooch on this one.
