Here's hoping everyone in the neighborhood realizes how important it is to keep their pets safely contained and not just running loose. Apparently, irresponsible ownership can also have an unexpectedly positive outcome.

Poor coyote probably thought it was a rat and fair game.

Now I understand why pitbulls were so popular with pioneering Americans. The pitbulls dealt with the coyotes and other varmints.

We had a few of them around growing up, never a problem! Until the wrong sort of people started raising them.

I live out in the woods and have two old dogs. I try to remember to take my pistol with me when the dogs go out to the backyard, along with a search light. Haven’t seen any coyotes but they have to be here (they’re everywhere).

Thanks for the articles showing the good side of Pitbulls today with this one and the one that saved the owners from the house fire. A few folks on FR would rather just focus and post the negative about Pit Bulls and not look at the breed as a whole.

In my neighborhood the little ratlike dogs are being hunted down by red tailed hawks. One woman even put a little green safety vest on her dog. She didn't want the hawk to mistake it for a wild animal!

Packs of coyotes are common in certain areas an attacking dogs isn’t unusual. A pack jumped a fence and attacked a German Shepherd...all they found of him was an ear. They never bothered my Alaskan Malamute...why too much wolf in him.

Any person who has ever spent any amount of time with a well bred and raised pit would affirm that this is completely consistent with their character.
Thanks for posting this.
