Some of them aren’t a bad meal.
Some are just plain awful.

But they are cheap and adequate if things were really bad for a few days.

Eat then 3 days in a row and they will bind you up just like an MRE LoL

I would throw a couple in the trunk with some water and blankets.
Cheap insurance.

Water is way more necessary than food

Preach it brother!

3 minutes without air, 3 hours without shelter, 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food. All of those can be deadly to humans.

Most are good, except for “vegetarian omelete.” Yech. My favorite is shrimp jambalaya.

Generally in that order.

Yah I understand that. I just ordered a case (will pass around for taste test) of the Libby’s beef and gravy (on your recommendation) to a few friends, if OK I’ll order a lot more.

You seem to be pretty well versed in this survival foods thing and I feel safe ordering on your recommendation.

How’s that for a suck up?

I also ordered a case each of dehydrated carrots, celery and sweet corn from Honeyville Foods. I’ve used some of their freeze dried and dehydrated food and it’s all pretty good so far.

I will tell you this.

A canned good that people LIKE the taste of will allow you to make a decent meal when times are tough.

You can only handle MRE type stuff for about 2 weeks tops.

Add lots of rice, beans, noodles and tuna and such to the pantry, that sort of thing.
Canned veggies.

And add anything fresh you can find.
As others said Water is the main thing.

Lemme know how the libbys beef is. Folks reviewed it well.

The MRE’s I've had were all good,,,

Water is at the top of the list,,,

Ammo is second,,,

Food is third,,,

I've got some “Mil Spec “ MRE’s that are good,,,

Most canned goods are a way to have something different

Dried beans ,,, rice and a can of Spam make a meal,,,
(water),,,
Cast iron cookwear and a few bricks makes a kitchen,,,

Magnesium fire starters will start a fire quick,,,

Sweets,,,candy,,,small cans of fruit are great,,,(water),,,

Best to sit down and make a list...

How can you tell that any civilian MRE has actually been refused by an Ethiopian?

Some things which everyone should have and are not that expensive are salt, pepper, spices you like, hot sauce, a soy sauce and Worcester or steak sauce and sugar.

Canned foods are generally safe for a good time after the “best by” date, tho the quality goes down. Other one which are cheap and easy to store are beans and rice. Spam is good to use to flavor the beans and rice.

There was an article in “National Geographic” a few months back saying you can take ordinary clear plastic water bottles filled with water as clean as you can get and place them in bright sunlight for 6 hours and it will kill all bacteria, virus and parasites. It is best to place them on a reflective surface and don’t bother them until the 6 hours are over.

AND a water proof marker. Write what is in the can on the lid. ;) That way if (God forbid) you get water and the label falls off you know the difference between Tuna and Friskies cat food.

There's nothing like a good MRE for what ails ya". The old beef patties, potato patties, and pork patties were great. You could munch them in the dark, and wouldn't be able to tell if you are eating the cardboard packaging. With some MRE cheese, they also treated diarrhea.

The chocolate nut rolls in the C-rations were also excellent tools. You could use them as chock-blocks for your vehicle when you were changing a tire, you could chew on them to break off an annoying tooth, or throw the at bad-guys when your position was being overrun. Nobody liked chocolate nut-rolls, so the will always be some laying around.

BTW- get a P38 can opener. One of the best tools ever invented!

I went to a local outdoors/camping store and bought a MH lasagna. I was surprised at how good it was.

Haven’t tried to scrambled eggs thing yet.

(I figured that I should try some of this stuff before ordering a lot of it. That’s what I would suggest.)
