WESTMORELAND COUNTY -- Pennsylvania State Police are trying to piece together the puzzling death of a motorcyclist in Westmoreland County.
According to police reports, William Mark Amos, 47, of Export, was riding on Route 819 in Salem Township when the deer crossed into his path on Friday morning.
The bike collided with the deer about 100 yards south of Ridge Road.
But police said that Amos had a gunshot wound to the head and that a gun was also recovered at the crash scene.
Police said Amos, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Columbo Facepalm
Time to call in Elmer Fudd!
The crash just injured him, so a compassionate deer used the gun to put him out of his misery.
My money is on ‘shot accidentally by another hunter’.
Cyclist hits deer, shoots self

So the deer has been exonerated. I smell a cover-up.
The head wound was from intersecting with the antler.
Is the autopsy report public?
Did they take all the doe?

Just goes to show you, always wear a helmet....
Simple. The biker was testing his gun to see if it was loaded while the deer wanted to see what would happen if it ran into a motorcycle. Case closed!
He realized he was mortally wounded after the collision, in excess pain, and ended it with his own gun.
Weird story, I ride that rode often.
Easy to smack a deer on but when I heard about the suicide aspect, it doesn’t make sense.
Cleary the deer saw the injured Amos, took Amos’ gun and put him out of his misery with a shot to the head. Euthanasia.
It’s a lot less funny when you know what really happened.
Thats my theory as well.
My guess too.
Thats the only reasonable thought, but was it a poacher or is it deer season...
By the way there was no need to say he wasn’t wearing a helmet, since a helmet would not have saved him from a bullet in the head, and probably not from the accident of hitting the deer. but they always like to say Motorcyclists died because they didn’t wear a helmet.
it makes no sense whatsoever to be belted in a5,000 pound hummer and be allowed to ride your harley, with your 10 year old daughter hanging on to you 70 miles per hour on the freeway without a helmet......pathetic
Does “self-inflicted” also mean “intentional” here? I can see that it would be self-inflicted but accidental, if he was trying to shoot at the deer at the moment of impact.
He'd been a promising concert genius.
????????????????????
I wonder if the biker was a 1% er?
