Waitaminute. My memory is fuzzy this morning. Which was the Central American country that chucked out it’s Marxist president and ticked off the Obama administration, and then there was a big drama about whether his plane would be allowed to land in the country? Was it Costa Rica?

I just googled “navy going to cost rica with 7,000 men and 46 ships+war on drugs+airplanes+the gulf blowing up” and nothing came up.

So we’re safe. For now. Til tomorrow. When we’re not.

There is a lot of information on insidecostarica.com.

It seems to be in response to drug cartel activity in the region (really ironic given the drug cartel activity along our own border...)

46 ships would be the entire British navy. The US Navy has 284 commissioned ships. I doubt you need 46 ships for an operation to land 7,000. The Tarawa class carries 1,900 Marines each.

A couple weeks ago, I read stories of the Costa Rican parliment allowing US Naval and Marine forces to enter their country. My speculation is that they are opening their ports-of-call because they want the dollars that sailors and marines can provide.

I certainly understand your concern. I have concerns too. It is the not knowing what is going on that leads to forming the worst case senarios with the bits and pieces of information we receive.

We have the “everything is under control” comments from the government and BP. But then reporters are banned from going near the area and we are supposed to believe BP and the Obmama Administration?

Then we have the “fears” expressed by many elsewhere concerning the proper pressure not being reached to equalize the pressure, and the “what if’s” if the cap fails. Now news that Navy ships are leaving the Gulf area???
