There are bad reviews and then there are bad reviews. Apple, the technology company, has seen over £6.5bn wiped off its value after an influential US magazine criticised the latest version of its iPhone.

Speculation was mounting last night that Apple might be forced to issue a recall, an unheard of scenario for a company feted by investors and technology experts.
Apples share price fell by as much as 4.2pc, wiping $9.9bn (£6.5bn) of its market value at one stage, although it recovered some ground as US stock markets headed higher.

Apple did not respond to the review but has said that all mobile phones suffer signal loss if held in different ways

More bad news. Telegraph is saying rumor that a recall is going to be needed for iPhone 4.
I love my Driod Incredible. I was once interested in the iPhone, but I wanted a more dependable network.
Tried to cancel my iPhone4 order after the Consumer Reports article came out and the website wouldn’t let me. Said I have to return it to the store after I get it.
Have you had a chance to compare your Droid Incredible with the Droid X that is soon to come out. I wanted an iPhone, but I have decided to go with Droid, I think. ;>)
I need to order a phone this week. Are there any negatives you might be willing to share? OR any positives that knocked your socks off?
How well does the touch screen work for typing?
Holy crap....
Good. Apple should make good and fix the phones or offer refunds at no cost. Most simply want their phones fixed. I personally am going to trade in my iphone for something else. Apple is going to be in trouble by the end of the year if they don’t start waking up to the fact they are facing a whole new round of more capable competition. They may have led the way but they are going to be left in the dust if they don’t become more customer friendly and a bit more generous.
Wrap carefully around the perimeter of the iPhone, covering the metal band.
Most of the time I can turn the HTC Droid sideways, which enlarges the keyboard in a landscape view. I won’t lie; it took some getting used to the touch screen, but it’s fine now.
I had some difficulty sending email at first, but I found out that my outgoing mail setting was incorrect, so that problems fixed.
I have a MAC, and like that I can use my iCal on both the phone and my laptop. That was the main reason I went with the Droid. I did need to set up a gMail (Google) account, but that cost nothing extra and it seems to work seamlessly with my other email, contacts and calendar.
To me, the whole phone is amazing. I had a very simple phone before that I actually used to phone people, so it’s a huge step up. There are lots of free apps. I especially like having the internet and the Kindle on the phone.
Apple iPhone 4 = Apple’s VISTA!
I have an iPhone 4... and I love it. Signal problem when held a particular way...? Got it. Given the other types of problems possible with any piece of tech... I’ll take this problem. Easily avoided. Otherwise, it’s an outstanding device.
Thanks for your input.
Really easily avoidable? You definitely are differnt than I am. When I talk I lose myself into the conversation sometimes and also get tired of holding the phone a certain way so I change ears or move my hands on the phone.
To me it’s a PITA to have to remember not to touch it a certain way or I’ll drop the call. Maybe they can make an app that you push a button on the screen that lets the caller know you aren’t able to hear them right now as you are repositioning the phone and don’t want to accidently disconnect by touching the phone in the wrong areas.
So nobody is buying stock? BS
Somebody is going to make a killing, again.
Then jump on in and make your money.
Or you get a case, which I would guess at a minimum of 75% of people do anyway and that fixes the problem too.
Why do people feel the need to keep making excuses for such a rookie mistake?
Personally I have never bought a case for any of my phones. They are bulky and take away from the feel and look of the phone.
This article gives the best option...Apple needs to recall this thing and fix it. It should be an easy fix...I nice clear coat around the antenna.
It isn’t an excuse. Apple should have spotted this before it was released. Apple should recall it and fix them.
However, it isn’t as big a deal as you and a few others here and a lot of people in the press are making it out to be for most people. In fact, an easy workaround is accomplished by doing something most people do anyway.
What you do isn’t all that important. It isn’t like you would be in the market for an iPhone without this issue. How often do you see iPhones without cases?
WOW. They’ve sold what - 2 million of these phones so far? And they’ve lost $10 billion in value? That’s $5,000 per phone. They could sell 20 million phones and never make this loss back.
BIG financial blow, and the way Apple is handling the failures (denying at first, then blaming the users) isn’t making it any better.
I see this a lot, and IMHO it doesn't ring true. Of the dozen or so iPhone users I know, not one has a permanent case. Most USE a carrying case when carrying the phone, but there's nothing installed on the phone itself.
Do you have any statistics showing how many iPhone users use a permanent case?
