Her 21 gun salute this morning!

Missing some of her rigging due to a major renovation for the War of 1812 Bicentennial.

Thanks for the link.

I have to say, though, that seemed like very sloppy gun drill. Not timed well at all.

In defense of the gun crews, though, I don’t imagine they get much practice.

I’m just heading out to the River for a Southern 4th - will check back upon my return to see the new video!

This little town only recently started celebrating the 4th of July. Interesting history Seige of Vicksburg. Not “Yankee” friendly. :)

“I have to say, though, that seemed like very sloppy gun drill. Not timed well at all.”

It was more sloppy camera work on my part than a sloppy gun drill - what you didn’t see was that seagull they got - don’t worry he’s still alive but will never have sex again!

P4L.

I’d like to see the USS Texas get her 14” guns cleared for working order and fired both on a day like today, but Texas’ independence as well.

“Did you ever go to Battleship Cove in Fall River?”

I was lucky - my mother was the Den Mother - we saw all that stuff & not once but all the time! I have’nt been on “Big Mamie” for quite a few years though - when I took my own kids. I really enjoy the Freedom Trail, the Revolution most though.

Since I am one of six children, I suppose you could cal MY Mom a “Den Mother” Too! LOL!

Dad was a Gloucester fisherman, Navy WW2 and Korean War Vet. Dad and Mom took us to all the Historic sites, and when we went to Mystic Seaport in Connecticut, Dad saw the Wheel of his old twin-masted Fishing Schooner, the Sadie Noonan (upon which he had gone to sea at the ripe old age of NINE!)hanging on the wall in the Ship’s Chandler’s Office. You can bet that brought a tear to the old salt’s eye!

Old Ironsides
By Oliver Wendell Holmes
September 16, 1830

Ay, tear her tattered ensign down!
Long has it waved on high,
And many an eye has danced to see
That banner in the sky;
Beneath it rung the battle shout,
And burst the cannon’s roar;—
The meteor of the ocean air
Shall sweep the clouds no more.

Her deck, once red with heroes’ blood,
Where knelt the vanquished foe,
When winds were hurrying o’er the flood,
And waves were white below,
No more shall feel the victor’s tread,
Or know the conquered knee;—
The harpies of the shore shall pluck
The eagle of the sea!

Oh, better that her shattered bulk
Should sink beneath the wave;
Her thunders shook the mighty deep,
And there should be her grave;
Nail to the mast her holy flag,
Set every threadbare sail,
And give her to the god of storms,
The lightning and the gale!

9 of 11? Wow! Your Mom WAS a Den Mother! LOL!

The Statue of the Fisherman in Gloucester (Capt. Clayton Morrissey) was my Dad’s Godfather and namesake.

Back in the Day, I was a Guide at the (new) Boston City Hall (ugh, I know) and had to study up on all the Freedom Trail Lore to share with the Tourists. But I already knew most of it from my childhood and had a few tales of my own! LOL!
