Is Apple an American company? (are any Apple products even manufactured in America?)

Posted on 07/03/2010 9:43:35 PM PDT by Cringing Negativism Network

OK so America is agog. Agog I say! At the amazing new American technological marvel, the Apple iPhone 4.

Except, is the phone entirely manufactured... in Asia?

I live in the Austin, TX area and was surprised recently to read that Samsung is beginning their third plant expansion for manufacturing and designing Systems on a Chip and small circuit boards for cell phones and other small mobile devices.

Whether they go into Apple products I don’t know.

Is/are the car/cars you are driving made entirely in the UNITED STATES?

Just asking!

This is like saying that Toyota isn’t a Japanese car. Of course Apple is American.

Note that Samsung sells about 5X as many cell phones as Apple, just under their own brand. They are also a huge OEM manufacturer in the phone space as well.

They very well may make many of the chips inside the iPhone, too...

> similar to the FR retail shopping threads “you can’t shop at _______ because”

I live near uber-liberal Ithaca, NY, which is famous for organizing boycotts of this or that retail store for social-political reasons. There was almost no place left for a lib to buy anything, except the local hippie co-op (Greenstar) and selected stands at the Farmer's Market. I rapidly grew weary of the attitude of these folks, and ascribed it to the warped liberal world-view.

So it is ironic, but a bit saddening, to see FR go down the same path...

"Your posting history tells me you’re just stirring the pot."

Rabble-rousing vanity. Ever seen one posted about Microsoft -- by an Apple user?

It's called "trolling"; what do you expect from someone with a FRname like "Cringing Negativism Network"...

As I tried to explain, I’m not bashing Apple specifically.

I’m railing against the unending outsourcing, of good American jobs.

And the fact, the GOP seems not to be taking any sort of stand about it.

Ronald Reagan would have.

And my handle made a bit more sense, when Bush was president, and a certain news network could not complain enough about everything - of course they’re a bit different now...

Until another Republican is elected that is.

I am on a bit of a tear about outsourcing. It’s something I strongly believe is damaging our nation, severely.

Excuse me for believing strongly in something.

/s

If that was true, your title would have been “Are any computers made in America”.

You don’t lie well.

That’s not a very nice accusation.

It’s appropriate to wait a while between vanity posts.

Next one, I’ll rail against some other outsourcing “American” company.

If you choose to believe I’m lying, then suit yourself.

I’ve got zero beef against Apple. I just don’t like seeing our country’s capabilities systematically dissolving right in front of our eyes, while the very people (conservatives) who should be doing something to keep America strong and capable - seem brainwashed, and utterly blind to the growing danger to our nation.

If you choose to believe I’m lying, then you’ll excuse me if I believe you are brainwashed.

“Free trade” is not good for America, because we’re not actually selling anything. All we’re doing is spending our national treasure and competence, for cheap stuff.

We’re like the spoiled offspring of a wealthy industrialist, who upon inheriting the fortune accrued through years of hard work and competence - spends it all on stupid stuff.

Then. It’s gone. We’re doing that.

Open your eyes please.

Clean your fan and cooling heat sink with canned compressed air. Sometimes they have to be taken apart which if you don't know what you are doing and have the proper dis-assembly guide, you can really screw a laptop up. But canned air does a good job and usually fixes the issue.

I have never had a Dell laptop overheat, but I do see where the dust could be a problem. I will give it a try. But perhaps all the "vent" holes on the back of the HP would allow dust to accumulate faster.

All laptops have a cooling fan and most if not all have the intake somewhere on the bottom of the chassis with out vents on the back or sides.

First unplug it and shut it down, blow air backwards though the out vents to loosen up the crude, then blow through the inlet to blow it out or it will get lodged in the inlet screen. Repeat as necessary until you don't see stuff blowing out. But don't over do it or you could damage the fan blade, but that has never happened to me.

Canned air does not have enough pressure, but a air compressor would likely hurt it if blown too hard, which is why I suggested the canned air.

Unfortunately, factory assembly work goes to the lowest qualified bidder in a global economy.

China will be losing a lot of their work as a result of wage increases. This work will go to the next tier of emerging markets like Vietnam and countries you never heard mentioned before.

It is what it is.

How many cell phones/smart phones are actually “made In The USA”? Just asking, since you brought it up. I am sure that those who insist on products that are made here would like to see that list...

I will be waiting.

So. Is the iPhone manufactured in Asia?

We can't even make a weapons system for our country, in house, so why are you worried about a stupid phone?

But I’ve heard about Dell, so I googled them...did you know they DELIBERATELY concealed faulty motherboards from millions of their customers?

Epidemic? I wouldn’t take an apple POS if it was given to me. I’ve owned and maintained dozens of Dells...no probs, no failures, no shit.

None I know of. Closest thing I’ve seen is Blackberrys made in Mexico. At least it’s on the North American continent...
