Youtube ^ | 28 June, 2010 | Hickok45

Did you know that the 28th of June, 2010 was the 75th anniversary of the 357 magnum which was introduced in 1935?

A windy but great video with much information for anyone interested in the 357 magnum handgun. Great shooting by Hickok45 starting 9 minutes into the video.

I love my S&W pre-27 5-screw N-frame.

Its a "safe queen", too valuable to use for home defense.

I know DW is under new management, any trouble finding parts for those? I would like to get a little shorter barrel. On the other hand, I wouldn’t mind getting the longest available, and making a carbine stock for it.

My favorite too. My small S&W collection has Model 19s in three barrel lengths, and my carry gun is a Model 66 snubbie.

Not yet but I will be looking to get it at a gun show at the end of July. I just got a new and rarely used Ruger 10/22 Sporter Carbine this past Saturday with a Simmons 22 MAG 3-9x32 scope for $300.

That is sweet! I love the Ruger revolvers, they are built like tanks. One of my .357 Magnums is a Ruger SP101 which I just love.

I intend to add the following Rugers to my collection

GP-100 KGP-161 SS .357 Magnum
Super Redhawk KRSH9440 .44 Magnum
Super Redhawk KRSH7480 .480 Ruger
Super Redhawk KRSH7454 .454 Casull

I was stationed at Mtn. Home AFB, Mtn. Home, ID. I was helping a friend move from the base to Boise, ID, about 50 miles away. It was late and I decided to spend the night with him rather than drive back. So I went to a drug store to buy a toothbrush and some toothpaste. While there, I noticed that this drug store, a CVS or Rite-Aid like place, had a little glass case in the corner and they were selling handguns and knives. With my toothbrush and toothpaste in hand, I went over to look at the offerings. The cashier said she could ring me up there, and asked if there was anything else. I saw the S&W Model 19, 4" barrel, at a great price, so I said "yup, that one, please." This was 1978, so there were no waiting periods, no background checks. Filled out the federal paperwork and walked out with a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a handgun. Only in America (or used to be...)

Similar story. I had just arrived in the summer in Fairbanks AK, was going out Grayling fishing and stopped in a sport shop to get geared up for flyfishing. I noticed a glass counter on the way out with some revolvers and one had a decent price for it's caliber, a Hawes .44 mag Western Marshall. Felt more comfortable walking by those 10 inch wide bear tracks in the mud fishing after that. I think I paid around one hundred and some small change.

yeah I noticed that with using it in 9mm as well. use 5.4gr with a 115gr fmj. shooting it in a Browning HP leaves all kinds of residue around the ejection port

Is the cylinder modified to take those clips? I have seen guys shoot and reload fast with those rigs.

357. I have seen those modified 686 guns. Faster than speed loaders.

From what I understand, the cylinder needs to be cut down for the moon clips to work. I'll just stick with these:

Love the pre-27’s. Mine is a 3 1/2 inch with “cokes”. Just enough holster wear to make it a perfect shooter.

In a real gun fight, I'd take my AR with a 30 round mag. ; )

My favorite handgun caliber is the .44 Special, the father of the .44 Magnum, the caliber Elmer Keith was actually pushing for when they came up with the .357, which is the son of the .38 special. A person can load a .44 special at relatively mild factory loads, which will still take down a bad guy easily if the shot is placed correctly, or you can load it almost as hot as a .44 Magnum if you so chose(depending of course on the brand of .44 special firearm you happen to have). The .44 Special is extremely accurate and I carry a 3 inch barreled version in a belly band holster(with CCW of course).
