Excellent advice this morning. I need to check with hubby to see if we still have a 410. He has a couple of 12 gauge shotguns but I’m afraid of them. They really have a kick. I can handle the 410.
We have the motion detector lights in the front and on the sides. Sometimes, I see the light on in front and am curious about it. I think it is probably a dog or a cat. In our back yard, we have two large dogs.
We get many migrant workers that walk by during the day. No one has bothered us; occasionally we discover something missing.

LOL .... I saw that. OMG was the first thing in my mind as I read of Yorkie’s experience.
We have not had our alarm very long. I’m going to do a couple of tests on it to see how it works, so I can start setting it at night.
Locally, there have been several home invasions. I try to always use the deadbolt during the day. I believe that most of the home invasions are drug related.

Our shepherd has different barks for the different intruders. Many times you know it is another animal.
Thanks Amy! I will have to find out how to set the alarm for just the doors - and turn off the motion detector - (just in case I get up in the middle of the night - and forget it’s on!)
But, like you - better to have a false alarm to turn off, than to have an intruder sneak in!
Oh, thank you Conor. I didn’t realize how precarious the situation was, until I talked with the Police Department this morning. They also recommended I dial 9-1-1 if it ever happens again.
Really bad people having checked out the site by seeing it regularly, sometimes kill the dogs, ... poisoned food.
If home alone, I would likely decide to bring the dogs inside. Crate them if need be. They still hear extremely well, and give warning, at which time they can be released.
Consider why the dogs did not rouse you with their barking.
A whistle is enough even if not close to cause barking.

I know what you mean, BQ! There are MANY more people here from south of the border, than ever before. (Don’t know if they are IA’s or not - but they are everywhere.) I heard on the news this morning, that there will be over 10,000 protesting the AZ law SB1070, at the capitol next Thursday, when the law goes into effect. (And Sherrif Joe is ADDING to Tent City in eager anticipation. LOL!)

BQ, be sure you keep all the motion detectors dusted off, occasionally. A little spider built a web behind the one in the kitchen, and set off the alarm by crawling across it, while I was out of town! LOL!
My yorkie used to bark at animals - and at people - and the barks were totally different for each. If a javelina walked accross the patio, she would bark her “animal trespasser!” bark, but if it was a person - that bark would be her “HUMAN INTRUDER!” bark. She is now almost totally deaf, and her bark is very tiny and squeaky.
Need to get a BIG dog!
