OMG, Yorkie. What a scary thing to happen! Thank God you are safe.
I’m going to rethink my leaving the alarm off when we are home. I’ve been concerned that one of us would forget and go out for the paper without turning the alarm off. I would prefer a false alarm to an intruder while we sleep.
Thanking God again for keeping you safe.

Good morning, Jaycee.
That puppy is adorable and Marissa would snatch him up in a hurry.
After we get home from our vacation, we will start looking for a puppy. I’m going to go to a Dog Breed site to see if I can get an idea of the kind of puppy we want. Marissa says a beagle.

Your experience is enough to give shivers to a person, alone especially. My personal home protection favorite is to have a four/ten (4/10) shogun. It is great for home protection, light, easy to handle, the recoil isn't bad, etc. If they (invaders) are armed and brave they might successfully overcome any weapon. A shotgun if hard to face down ... most know they will be hit for sure. Many hand guns miss the target, because of nervousness, etc.
You did the best thing. Are you aware that the outside “movement security lights” that come on for a few minutes in response to movement, now also are available that takes photos, when they come on: thereby having a way for the police to identify them? One can not be of faint heart to use a weapon when the need arises. No matter the circumstances. Many fail to use their weapon. The intruders won't.
God help us in our day, in Jesus name, amen.

LOL, JustAmy wrote the same thing as I did “omg, yorkie.”
Seriously scary.
We got an alarm system recently and are setting it at night. I’ve set it off accidentally a bunch of times but we have the “cancel” option so the company doesn’t call us. I sometimes put it on when I’m working at home too.
Nothing’s fool-proof, of course, but I’m so relieved to have it.... we don’t have IAs crossing here in the middle of town, just other riff-raff. And I mainly worry about our cat family when we’re gone, so this helps.

I forgot the best first thing ... Get a dog. Especially a dog of some size. Any dog will hear and bark warning. Of course, they also hear outside animals, cats, foxes, other critters, skunks, etc. and bark for those too. Still a dog is a deterrent to anyone contemplating breaking in to your home. Shut and lock all windows and doors. For sure. every time.

A Dog's Best Friend
O Lord, don't let me once forget
How I love my trusty pet-
Help me learn to disregard
canine craters in my yard
Show me how to be a buddy
even when my sofa's muddy,
Don't allow my pooch to munch
postal carriers for lunch,
Shield my neighbor's cat from view,
guide my steps around the doo,
Train me not to curse and scowl,
when it's puppy's night to howl,
Grant I shan't awake in fear
with a cold nose in my ear,
Give me patience without end-
Help me be; A DOG'S BEST FRIEND.

Interesting to realize we mostly all view life as if ... it were all about us. Our thoughts, needs, desires, our wants, our knowledge about what to do, and so on ... self centered. We all do this.
We have no idea how mistaken we might be regarding some of our ideas.
Turn to our Lord and SAVIOR, our REDEEDER, DELIVERER and FRIEND. Ask Him for guidance and read His words. Do what He instructs/commands. Be obedient. He will not leave you or abandon you, in truth.

We've been praying daily for a real turn around in November. There is no doubt that the liberals will try to commit fraud to rig the elections.
My prayer is that God will bring evil to the light so we can take it down.
