I’m assuming you did not have a front seat passenger...or your losses could have been worse......glad you were safe....sorry to hear about the other driver...(were they drunk???)

big American vehicles are the only way to travel. nice to have some metal between you and the rest of the world.

I was t-boned in my crown vic wagon 10 years ago...by a 1 ton pickup, with dulie rear wheels that blew a light...going about 50 hitting the driver side door....pushed me diagonally through the intersection about 70 feet....it popped 3 tires off the rims...we changed 1 and refilled the others and I drove it away...I did get some whiplash back and neck pain but being he hit the front pillar it did not crush the vehicle.

130 mph, 7800 lbs, assuming a tenth of a second for duration of impact...

F=m*a...
Mass: 7800 lbs * .45 kg/lb = 3510 kg
Speed: 130 mph * 1.6 = 208 kph
Acceleration: a = dv / dt, so 208 / 0.1 = 2080

F = m*a = 3510 * 2080 = 7,300,800 Newtons of impact force.

Did I get that right? I'm merely a physics geek wanna-be.

That’s amazing. Glad to hear you’re ok.

If lawyers are going to be involved make sure you secure her cell phone records.

I think he would have to go to the right, not the left, in order to avoid her.

The only thing I have liked better than my old 1998 F-150 that I drove for ten years is my 2006 F-350 I got for a song in 2008!

My fiancee loves the front bench seat so she can snuggle next to me... and she rarely wears a belt there. A terrifying thought for me, and something that will never happen again.

There are 10000 ways this could have been worse (and I had been on my motorcycle earlier in the day!). I am incredibly grateful.

Thankfully, no other passengers in either vehicle.

It looks like the Saturn came across the lane from the left, and hit the truck on the right hand side.

Turning to the ‘left’ would be the only way the right front wheel on the truck would have been pushed back.

Unless the Saturn corrected after crossing the lane and hit the truck dead-on, closer to the passenger side.

But, I’m merely speculating.

something that will never happen again.

Since the truck doesn't look very drivable.

Was the driver of the Saturn wearing their belt?

Notice the comment at the end.

And they want to add more traffic with a casino. I am dreading the day it becomes a reality.

I think this person is jumping the gun. Would be interesting to know what this girl was doing to cause the accident. Drunk driver, texting, etc.

I’d wager the poor soul was futzing around with a phone.

A good possibility. Yet lots of folks think it's no big deal to use a cellphone while driving.

"The female minivan in front of me said she (the Saturn driver) swerved into our lane (on a 2-lane rural highway), corrected in time to miss her, but over-corrected and came back into our lane... narrowly missing her, but hitting me dead on."

God bless you and may he take care of the deceased. Whether or not you think that there will be civil or criminal legalisms, TALK TO A LAWYER ASAP!

"I’m hoping that I can figure out exactly what His purpose is for me and get to working on it!"

You're absolutely right. Just pray on it and simply ask Him; He'll reveal it to you. God bless, and grateful that you're ok.

From what I overheard, she was not moving at all in her car, and she was utterly pinned in. Even if she was alive immediately afterwards (and I don't know if she was, only that the off-duty EMT who arrived on the scene first said that she was not moving and was not responsive), she would've need to be extricated. I didn't hear about her belt, but since the front of her car came into her body (likely far more than mine did), I'm not sure that a belt would've done the poor soul any good. =^(

Hopefully, she never felt a thing, and the good Lord took her gently up.

Glad to hear that you are OK. I’ve survived a couple of pretty bad accidents, and it is a bizarre feeling.

As for the math, I think that your speed should only be 65 mph. Since you were hit head-on, Newton’s third law says that the speed from the other car is essentially cancelled out, right? The force that you and your car experienced would be as if you hit a stationary object at 65 mph.

This is why, years ago, I got my wife a full-size conversion van to transport her and the kids.
