It is not a law that you must show your receipt at the door.
I won’t get in a line (again) to get out of the store.
If no one is stopped ahead of me, I will show my receipt, but I won’t let go of it and I won’t stop my progress towards my car.Otherwise, I walk past the line.
The stores doing this are saying they suspect you may be a thief.

Slightly off topic. Has anyone else noticed that the number of food sample ladies at Costco has declined?

So, you didn’t have time to wait on line like everybody else, but you had time to wait five minutes, look up the Costco number, call them, chew out the manager and point out the offending employee?

I think she was wrong to grab you and your purse, but I don’t have much sympathy for the rest of he anecdote. Sorry.

What a jerk. Why does she think she can cut in front of everyone else in line?

Too bad Costco did not terminate her membership right there and then.

Lady, I’m sure the others waiting in line were in just as much of a hurry as you. You should have waited in line like everybody else.

Is the headline writer some sort of New Yorker? New Yorkers are the only ones who use the expression “wait ON line” rather than “wait IN line” that I know of (outside of references to remote computer usage).

She didn’t understand you were special.

I don’t think I have to stand in line with the small people either.

These peons should be reprimanded and fired.

What absolutely amazes me is how many sheep think they must submit to a search WITHOUT Probable Cause. Once you purchase goods they are your property to take home. Now if the merchant has actual evidence you have in fact stolen from them that is an entirely different matter all together and yes management or loss prevention should restrain someone stealing even with force if needed. But to search every ones private property leavuing with purchased items? No and no one should have to submit to being treated that way.

If people complained to COSTCO as they should then the policy would likely end. More and more people have become willing subjects to be treated as assumed criminals by both government and private businesses until proved innocent. In the mean time a shop lifter is going to walk out of the store with several hundred dollars on their person or use an emergency exit to carry more obvious merchandise out and run like mad to a waiting vehicle. How do they get past the front door? If you don't have a purchased item then no line right?

What a jerk. Costco is not at fault here. This jerk cut in front of the line, and felt insulted that she was called on it. What a jerk, just looking to cause trouble.

If you don't want to follow their rules, don't shop there.

It's not rocket surgery.

I sat in my car for about 5 minutes and calmed down.

Was she no longer running late?

I refuse to patronize a business that treats their customers like potential criminals. This goes for Costco, Best Buy and every other retail outlet with the contemptible practice of forcing their customers to "prove" that they are not thieves every time they shop there.

It is a truly sickening and revolting sight to see customers, that just spent hundreds of their hard-earned dollars, lined up at the exits in these places like bleating sheep while their purchases are scrutinized by minimum-wage mall cop wannabes that you probably wouldn't trust to run a hot dog stand.

This practice would not have been tolerated in America back when it was a truly free nation (and when the Nazi-state of Germany and Soviet Russia was still fresh in everybody's minds). If a retail store adopted this practice back in say, 1957, it would have been run right out of business because nobody would even contemplate walking into such an anti-American establishment. And I might add that those who did shoplift were simply caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Back in those days, it wasn't enough to just put laws on the books. They were actually expected to be enforced!

If this woman was manning the second exit, why couldn't she do the exit check procedure, shortening the wait time of everyone, including those in the first line.

That said, I can never understand why these stores have exit checks? After all, the cashier should be responsible for you paying for every item, and deactivating any and all security tags.

You’ve had to show your receipt to get out of Costco since day one, back when it was Price Club. This shouldn’t be news to this person, and if they were running late then maybe they shouldn’t have stopped.

Next time you need a fan, maybe Home Depot or Lowes might be a better option.

why would anyone shop in a store where you had to stand in line to pay for something then stand in line again to leave?

What a creative excuse for a middle-aged child!

I am running late so I don't have to wait in line like everybody else.

Don't you know who I am?

What are you going to do? Stop me?

Costco is a membership place and you agree to abide by the rules which includes standing in line to show your receipt.

She already knows this because she admits to returning items. She just didn’t want to follow the rules. I doubt the details of the rest of her story.
