Christan Morales says her son just wanted to honor American troops when he made a hat decorated with an American flag and small plastic Army figures.
But the hat ran afoul of the district's no-weapons policy because the toy soldiers were carrying tiny weapons.
"His teacher called and said it wasn't appropriate because it had guns," Morales said.

One of the many reasons we homeschool. The school boards find it easier to make and enforce “zero tolerance policies” than to make individual judgment calls. No wonder they can’t teach kids to make informed judgment calls either. Don’t learn to think for yourself. Just fill out this multiple choice test.
If I got that call from my kid’s teacher, I would have broken out in fits of hysterical laughter and handed the phone to my wife to deal with.
