I think you're probably right. Even if you could find a hide, you'd live in fear of being discovered for years while scrounging for necessities.
Like minded people are going to have to come together and fight. If we can't hold the USA then we will be forced to retreat to a section of the country where we can put up a fight and began recovering our country and freedom loving way of life.
What I've done is to own some gold and silver, acquire foods that can be stored for long term, collect tools that would protect life, tools and utensils that make it possible to survive, adequate clothing, bedding and portable shelter.

That is exactly what will happen.
If we get to the "dooms day" scenario where gold is supposed to be what you want to have, food, fuel, etc are going to become rare relatively quickly. I can see it taking at most a year or so for current stockpiles to be plundered, consumed, or destroyed. Gold will buy surprisingly less and less in the end.
At best, it will delay the inevitable. Bullets and guns are a better investment. One bullet will grow in value, not go down.

You can’t eat bullets either... but you’ll survive quite well if you have some guns and ammo and a willingness to kill, if necessary.
