What Reggie Bush has to say about USC sanctions
LA Times ^ | June 10, 2010

Posted on 06/14/2010 12:59:10 PM PDT by Bad~Rodeo

In the wake of the NCAA's decision to penalize USC, former Trojans running back Reggie Bush, a key figure in the sanctions, released a statement that read predictably formal. Nothing surprising here:

"I have a great love for the University of Southern California and I very much regret the turn that this matter has taken, not only for USC, but for the fans and players. I am disappointed by today's decision and disagree with the NCAA's findings. If the University decides to appeal, I will continue to

Reggie probably had no formal knowledge of what the parents were probably up to.----------BS

When you're driving an expensive car, your family moves to a luxury home and has cash and your 19 years old, you know something is not right unless grandma died and left a little somum somum to the the family.

And the same goes for the coaches. Everyone knows something is wrong by just looking at the parking lot outside the practice field. When the players have better cars than the coaches, you know something is not right.

“Expensive Car”?

Not sure I would classify a Chevy that was already 7 years old by the time he was a freshman as “expensive”.

I didn’t realize this had to do with the University of South Carolina. I thought it was Southern Cal.

That’s what happens when the press gets confused about the use of USC when you talk about universities.

Because everyone should know that the Real USC is in South Carolina.

Bush was driving at various times, a Hummer and a classic tricked-out chevy.

First is whether Bush received extra benefits from the marketing agencies vying for his business. The scope of the evidence against Bush and his family is overwhelming – on-the-record testimony, hotel receipts and a brazen flaunting of the rule book.

When Reggie Bush posed on the cover of Dub Magazine with his tricked out car and his parents wrote their name in the driveway of the home they were allegedly living in rent free, they weren’t doing much to cover their tracks. Even devout Trojan fans have a hard time arguing Reggie didn’t get something.

Seriously? Where do you think Reggie thought his parents got the money for the new house? Did he think the guy who was constantly coming around talking up his career and the fact that he would be taken care of by this guy’s firm was just doing it for the love of football? Come on - he knew, the coaches knew - it’s their job to know what these boys are doing and who they are associating with.

IMO the NCAA is ridiculous. They believe schools are supposed to KNOW all things their players are up to...

I'd love to see an agreement between the NCAA and the NFL to punish the players in addition to the schools. If Reggie get a 2 year suspension from the NFL for his college infractions, some people would think twice about doing the crap he did.

April 2006 the Texans pass on Bush with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. A source with the team says Bush's reluctance to discuss specifics of his parents' living arrangements played a part in the Texans' decision to bypass him.

“Do you know the date that issue hit the newsstands. Hmmm? Here’s a hint. It was afer Bush’s rookie NFL season had begun.”

Wow, if I ever write something with that much attitude (read: arrogance) and it turns out I’m dead wrong, I think I will just sign off FR...

I'm sorry, but you are simply incorrect. Reggie Bush appeared on the cover of issue 38 of DUB (there were actually multiple covers of the same issue) which was the Nov/Dec 2006 issue. There were reasons for the USC compliance office to be aware of problems with the car, but the magazine cover is not one of them.

Dub Magazine Issue 38 November/December 2006 Featuring:
Chingy
The Game
Lloyd Banks
Winky Wright
Carey Hart
Rick Ross, and Reggie Bush
Also inside: Chop “The King of Cars”, Gridiron Iron: The NFL’s Finest Rides, and Go Green... Save Green! The Alternative Fuel Technology Revolution.

Note the alternate cover in the photo:

Here's another alternatvie cover:

If by that you mean I am in denial about problems at USC, I am not. However, I can read when a magazine came out, and understand that a cover issue months after a player left college is not proof of wrongdoing by the athletic department while the guy was in school.

The date of the Cover shoot is semantics. In the spring of 2005 New Era Sports gave Bush almost $13,000 to buy a pristine black-on-black 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS in Los Angeles. The car is subsequently outfitted with chrome rims and a stereo. This is a VIOLATION

“The date of the Cover shoot is semantics.”

No, it's not. The picture was posted as proof that SC should have known he got extra benefits. The cover picture was not printed till AFTER Bush left SC, so it means nothing.

However, the compliance dept at SC was negligent for not following up on Bush’s information sheet on the car which was incomplete. I acknowledge that.

Now, compare the sanctions put on SC, where neither the school nor its boosters provided any benefits, to Notre Dame where a booster embezzled over a million dollars and spent most of it on players, or to Oklahoma where a major booster paid two players not to work, or to Florida State where staff aided and abetted academic fraud with over 60 athletes in 10 different sports.
