A depressed Russian engineer built a macabre homemade guillotine to commit suicide in his bedroom, Pravda reported Tuesday.
Troubled Albert Repin told his parents he was building a closet at their Moscow home.
But behind his locked bedroom door, the 47-year-old divorced man was secretly building a chilling replica of the 18th century killing machine -- famously used to behead enemies of the French Revolution.
Repin spent several days assembling his DIY guillotine out of plywood, rope, and metal sheeting.
Finally, he climbed into position before cutting the rope to release the heavy, makeshift blade.
"The guillotine did not cut off his head completely only because the metal was not sharpened," a local police spokesman said.
Repin's parents asked his brother to kick down the bedroom door when he wouldn't respond to calls.
The shocked sibling burst in to find Repin's body slumped beside the horrifying execution device, Pravda said.
Relatives say he never got over his divorce, which happened several years ago.
I feel that way sometimes. I’m just too cowardly to kill myself.
I’m sure CSI-Topeka (or some other crime/law TV show) will pick this story up for shock value.
Moral of the story: Never lose your head over a little bit of tail.
Stay that way. Things get better, especially if you make hat happen.
F’r instance, typos...”hat”=”that”. God Bless you, FRiend.
I hadn’t thought of making a Guillotine. I’ll have to keep that one on reserve for when our country total commie! lol.
I doubt things will ever get better to tell you the truth.
He’d be so disappointing if he wasn’t dead. RIP.
That's not the way to get "ahead" in life.
It's a shame he wasn't more "headstrong".
He'll never be the "head" of a major corporation.
All that work and he didn’t even sharpen it? What a dope...
I guess he lost his head.
DisappointED. That his device wasn’t 100% effective.
“Relatives say he never got over his divorce...”
Well. I guess he’s over it now.
His psychologist probably suggested a hobby or personal project to stave off his depression...
Once an engineer, always an engineer.
I imagine most folks have thoughts of suicide at times. I know I did. Not too much lately. Things were pretty bad for awhile there years ago. But... day by day goes by and things CAN get better. One piece of advice I heard was “wait a day”. And if you still thought like it, “wait a week”, etc. I forget where the advice ended (a year!?)
The other saying I like is “Suicide - a permanent solution to a temporary problem”.
I had an accident and came a half-inch from death last year. Dieing was the last thing I wanted to be doing then! Things and attitudes change.
All of that said, if my wife divorced me and caused me so much pain that I would want to kill myself, I would probably set the guillotine up on her front doorstep so she could find me. And make sure the blade was sharp!
