Regardless of what you may think of Penn Jillette, the guy is spot on on issues 99% of the time. He is smart and informed and quite funny,,, IMHO!

"And getting rickrolled".
What is "rickrolled"? Does it have anything to do with Rachel Corrie?

I’m neither surprised or disappointed at his shots at Christianity. Most Libertarians are like that. They strive more toward a secular world free of “Jesus Freaks” who have a right to practice their religion, just as much as pinheads like Jillette have to bash Christians on TV and in society. His views and views of many Libertarians trend this country further into the cesspool of immorality.

While I can't stand Penn, he is right about this. Christianity is probably the only religion that can hold cultural and political dominance and do nothing to oppress minority religions.
Christians authored freedom of religion and keep it, often to our own detriment.
The irony is that the very people who have gained the most from this also hate Christianity more than anyone.

In the meantime, while we are arguing percentages, what did he say about the dangers of cheerleading?

Did you watch the whole clip and hear what he says about why he attacks Christians?

Duly noted. I will from now on treat any links you post as suspicious. ;)

He has issues with the pretenders and the hypocrites as all of us do. Those people are definitely not Christ-like nor do they aspire to be so and Penn shouldn't stereotype based on that.
However, that alone doesn't stop me to like the guy and be interested in hearing his views. We're all flawed...

He said that because feminists had it ruled as “not a sport,” so that girls would get more real sports in school, it has no coaches and therefore results in a lot of accidents. He was quite funny about it and made his point very well.
I remember an incident where the spotter grabbed a girl who fell off the top of a pyramid around the waist, thereby turning her body into a lever, and her head hit the floor with tremendous force. I can’t remember whether she died—it was quite a while ago.
To: MollyKuehl
He is clever. He put the Bible in the same category as the Catholic Church, Mother Teresa, and creationism. He will answer to God for denouncing His holy word in this way. Not many will pick up on what he did.
To: MollyKuehl
OK; watched it. He says that as long as Christians are nice and sweet and open to the free exchange of ideas, he feels perfectly free to “punch the s**t out of ‘em”.
Gee. What a man.
Freakin’ coward, if you ask me. Let him take on Islam.

Let him take on Islam.

His partner, Teller, is equally "outspoken" (despite his non-speaking role) in his attacks against Christianity as evidenced
HERE, where he uses ancient examples as proof. Disappointing to see that!

I like Penn Gillette, but Gillette was vehemently anti-Bush. So are a lot of people on FR, but Gillette is against not only the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, he’s also against the Patriot Act.

He sure doesn’t get it about Christianity. You can’t bundle it up with history. It is an idea. In its pure form it is the salvation of the world, no matter how many sinners have distorted its message from time to time.

I don't know. At my age I get sidetracked easily.........I was heading to the mailbox when I stopped to read this thread. Come to think of it, I still haven't gotten out there or remember why I was headed there. The mail doesn't come till late this afternoon........

“guy is spot on on issues 99% of the time.” More like 60% of the time.
83% (It's always 83% - high enough to be a devastating win, not so high it can be challenged as unbelievable)
