ST. JOHN | A Lake Central High School science teacher came to school Wednesday dressed inappropriately and appeared confused, prompting school officials to call an ambulance and the police.
Lake Central Superintendent Gerald Chabot said school starts at 7:15 a.m., and the incident was reported to the office very early by teachers and students.
Initial reports from students who took cell phone pictures indicated the teacher came to school in a bra, panties and robe. Chabot declined to confirm that, simply saying she was dressed inappropriately.
"We went into the classroom to see what was happening and it was very evident there was some sort of medical condition she was under going," Chabot said. "There were key pieces of clothing missing. She was dressed inappropriately. I can't speculate on what might have been going on. There was a medical, behavioral issue in terms of speech and behavior. It could have been due to a prescription or a number of other things. The hospital is evaluating."
School officials called an ambulance and police. The teacher, whose name was not released, was taken to St. Margaret Mercy Healthcare Centers about 9 a.m. Chabot said the teacher was under observation for most of Wednesday. He said he did not know if she had been released.
St. John Police Chief Fred Frego said police responded to the call at 7:54 a.m. Wednesday at Lake Central in reference to a 10th-grade teacher acting strangely. She was scantily clad and alone in a classroom when police arrived, he said.
Chabot said the woman is a first-year teacher. He said calls were made to her fiance, who came to assist her. Although police would not release her name, Frego said she has a Highland address.
Chabot said school was out for students Thursday and out for teachers today.
He said the school will not take any action at this point against the teacher because the incident is being viewed as a "medical distress situation" unless they learn something different later from the police and medical report.
Police have not arrested or filed charges against the woman, Frego said.
I despise those folks who expect us early risers to wait until the crack of noon before we call... ;-P
(I’m at my desk by 6:30 am, after a 45 minute drive)
We require photos to evaluate how disturbed she really was.
I vote to exterminate you!
My day has always startes with breakfastr @ 5:00 from the time I was born 72 years ago!
you can have your mustard, just dont use the same knife to put mayonaise on mine or you will have to be strung up...
I don’t know how many kids have nightmares about going to school in their underware, but seeing your own teacher come to school in hers would sure make for restless nights.
I’m Texan. We don’t put mayo on anything but tuna ... and, even then, its usually miracle whip.
Mustard, on the other hand, is universal. Several years back Burger King had to release a Texas Whopper with mustard on it.

Exhibit A: Charles Whitman. Do any of you ladies know who Charles Whitman is?
I’m with you on the ‘no musTARD on hamburgers’ (or ANTHING) issue..
But I get up at 5:00 AM, get dressed, walk the dogs, feed/water the dogs, get breakfast for my family, make my wife coffee, and drive to work so I don’t have to sit in the parking lot that is a ‘freeway’.
It’s all the people who leave at the same time expecting no traffic that cause problems on the highways and byways.
Just remember I can get the drop on you late at night...
A very sad story all the way around.
That is OUTRAGEOUS!!! 7:15 a.m. For school kids? No decent person is getting up at the crack of dawn to do anything. People who wake up early and expect the rest of the world to cater to them are destroying the universe. They should be rounded up and exterminated, along with people who put mustard on hamburgers.
I do not call anyone before 9AM nor after 9 PM and I would like the same kindness extended to me. :)
“Maybe she thought it was still a dream?”
lol! Such a true statement...I so remember my anxiety dreams which would occur as the end of summer was approaching and a new school year beginning. Dreams of showing up late or showing up only in my slip and trying to find more clothing before the bell rang for class to begin were a constant experience.
Ah, retirement is wonderful:-)
Ok I’ve lived in Texas, but can’t stomach mustard. Miracle whip is not my favorite but it is better than mustard...Best Foods/Hellman’s is grteat. In some foreign countries McDonalds has mayonaise dispensers for the french fries along with ketchup...strange huh.
Speaking of Texas, what do you use when eating rattlers?

If I wasn’t so sure that you were being sarcastic, I’d point out to you that our military men and wimmin are usually well into their work day, even in peace time by 0715 hrs.

I only take personal calls before 5:00 in the morning or aster 7:00 at night!
Anyone that calls me durring the day for personal reasons gets hung up on!
we need the cell phone pictures from the students to determine guilt.

So if I ever need to call you I will call between 7-9PM. :)
I don’t get the mayo on fries thing either. I was on vacation in Flordia (I think) and a McDonalds put mayo on a breakfast sandwich. Who wants an egg mcmuffin with mayo? Blech. The British use malt vinegar on fries — which I actually like.
Not sure what you’re referencing on the ‘rattlers’. I’ve eaten rattlesnake once (fried). Tastes like alligator ... kinda like chewy chicken. There is an appetizer that some steakhouses around here have called “rattlers” ... I think it just fried stuffed jalapeno peppers. Never had them, though.
