One of the best ways to freeze corn is to put it in a mesh bag and throw it in the freezer, shuck and all. You can pull it out as needed and throw it on the grill in the shuck or peel it and boil. Drawback is that it takes up a great deal of space that way. Otherwise, you have to shuck it, blanch it before freezing, or go ahead and can it as kernels or creamed corn. Canning corn takes a pressure canner.
I’ll ask my wife when she gets home...consistency a bit different than fresh, but still very tasty with butter and parmesan cheese.. We had the fresh salsa that she froze last year on nachos the other night, as well...also very good.
Thanks. I’ll try to remember all this in August and Sept. case we get more corn than we can eat right away.
We are currently eating the most expensive veggies on the planet, but we are enjoying them immensely. Justadumbblonde was right about the cauliflower. Although puny, it was the best I ever tasted. I hope the cost per meal will drop dramtically next year when I am no longer paying for infrastructure and $$$ bagged $$$ soil additives!
Of course, there’s that new, pricey composter I have my eye on...
TC, tubebender made a post about hand pollinating corn at post #354, on this (last weeks) thread.
Kathy, I'm glad to hear your parents are still healthy. My Mom is doing well, (mid-80’s), but Dad passed away 31 years ago, and I miss him every day.
MC, in your climate I suspect you could do peas or spinach in the ex garlic plot?
AFTR, when will you replant it? Mid-Aug?
Tubebender, I don't know if this works, but I have read a few times that if you grind the offending bug in a blender with some water, and spray it on/near the plants, it deters that type of bug.
Most of my plants are doing well, but there was some black spots on the lower leaves of some of my tomato plants, so I cut those branches off.
Should I be hilling my carrots? I can see some of the growth below the green leaves poking above the soil.
I'll see you all on the new thread.
Happy Gardening!

It’s always best to plant your gardening zone for maximum success.
Here’s a link for you:

I planted peas early and they are already coming up. Will see if I can do a late crop too. Was thinking of putting lettuce between alternate garlic rows, would still give me room for weeding. I think I may actually be in zone 3 from the temp ranges cited. The lowest temps are often -25F to -30F. Started many things in larger containers indoors to get size early before planting outdoors.
I am trying to plant for the zone, both cold tolerance and growing time. Also started much indoors to get a head start on the short growing season. I think the average time between frosts is only about 90 days.
I just read a couple of days ago (after I planted cucumbers next to cantalope) that mellons should not be planted close to cukes, squash, or pumpkin - can make the mellon bitter.
I’ll be transplanting the cuke soon as it gets to the seedling stage.
Yes, I’m in Zone 4 in the USA and I wish I had a green house for starts and seedlings.
It has been rain/sleet mix for the last day. Got down to 38F last night.
Thanks for the link, Cindy.
Mtnclimber, would elevation make that much difference?
I’m in Eastern Ontario, Canada, and I’m only in zone 4b.
You’re welcome Fanfan.
I am about 3,200 ft higher than Denver. The temperature usually drops 3F per 1,000 ft so it is usually 10F cooler than Denver. Also a lot more snow. The Eldora Mountain Resort ski area just west of me usually gets 300 inches of snow each year.
