Your cauliflower will be delicious because you grew it! It is great you found an earthworm in your raised bed. I hope you showed him where to dig. He may have been up in the leaves to escape some very wet soil conditions. My wife thinks I am nuts when I go out after a heavy rain and I rescue earthworms crawling on our driveway and show them where my garden is!

Your wife needs to talk to my wife re: crazy husbands that rescue earthworms. Do we need a support group?

By the way...I have RED Stupice tomatoes...earliest in New England???

First thing first...re photos like the roses are leading to a steady decline in my mental health as we continue to have drippy yukky weather causing the Rose buds to mildew and making the Raspberries soggy.

Re with tongue in cheek may I suggest Velveeta or Cheeze Whizz for a topping. Wife type tells me she used to use a cheese and salsa concoction that came in a jar? The holes in the leaves look similar to the damage the Cabbage Looper(sp), a little green worm did to our cole crops when we grew cole crops.

Did I tell that photos of roses blooming, etc...

Have you picked any yet? Down this way I am a couple of weeks away from seeing a RED tomato - got a late start - but things are going great up in the garden.

I’m curious as to how he got there. That bed contained NO SOIL — just peat moss, vermiculite, & compost PLUS composted worm castings. Do you suppose there were eggs in the worm castings? I thought the castings were just worm poop.

I’m sorry to say that I did not turn him around and send him back in. He was crawling out and down the side of the raised bed. I figured he knew how to go back into the garden when he was ready.

Anyway, I did not kill him. My daddy taught me to respect earth worms. That did not make me LIKE earthworms, but I respect them.

I have a little frog/toad that hangs out there too. I just let him do his thing and don’t mess with him.

I have RED Stupice tomatoes

I'm jealous. I grew those last year because I couldn't find any Early Girls. They were WONDERFUL, but I couldn't find any Stupice this year. So sweet and the earliest yet. We are no where near a tomato of any sort in WI yet, unless Diana has some coming along. It's only JUNE 9, FGS.

So sorry that I am making you sad. Those roses are pretty soggy this morning, but the sun is out and the sky is blue now...

Did I mention that my recalcitrant “automatic” waterer came on this AM at 5? Just after the rain stopped. I had to rush out in my bathrobe and waders to turn it off manually. That’s when I brought in the cauliflower. We got almost 2 inches in this last storm. But that was not enough for me to get my grow-through plant supports into the ground for the chrysanthemums. Could there be concrete under those beds about a foot down? Those plant supports have 30 in legs. I think I’ll have to cut them shorter, or they won’t go in the ground.

I bought plants last year at the garden store. I didn’t know the variety, but it was all they had. Didn’t see a one this year.

That seems to happen a lot, whether its flowers, veggies, or shrubs. A garden store will have a lot of one variety one year and then never again. Frustrating if you find a plant that you really like.

I grew White Cloud cauliflower and it did grow almost as big as those wonderful heads in the grocery store. It was my understanding that the inner leaves were supposed to protect the cauliflower from scorching in the sun, so I looked at Bonnie Plants' website and, sure enough, it pretty much said that. Take a gander at: http://www.bonnieplants.com/tabid/420/p/907/Default.aspx

You know no self-respecting Wisconsin household would have those faux cheese-foods on hand!

This was Snow Crown. It said that it would mature in 50-70 days, but it grew so FAST. I planted it when it was cold (from little plants from the garden store) and it just sat there. Then we had a week of very warm weather and a week of rainy weather and then I had to cut it because it was overgrown. I don’t think it was in the ground 30 days. Should I try it again in the fall?

This year the freeze warnings seem to be contained within a certain household in Tennessee.

I just caught that. You are naughty, naughty this week, especially with the announcement this AM about Karenna Gore Schiff's impending divorce! ;-)

Real Cheese only comes from Contented California Cows...

You can buy Stupice tomato seeds from Jungs plus Baker Creek Seeds has hundreds of Heirloom seeds...

Although I’m a native of CA and a resident of WI, the best tasting cheeses come from Vermont. I get it at Sam’s Club, or Costco. Mmmmm, mmmm, mmm.

Of course my favorite cheese is sharp Tillamook from OR, but I think they stop that at the Mississippi River so it doesn’t get into WI. It’s retaliation for CA stopping all the fruit from other states at your border.

IA has some pretty good tasting Blue Cheese sold at the Colonies.

Not sure if they still have what you are looking for; but you can buy all the Cabot goodies at their on-line store...I generally avoid doing business with Vermont, but they sell a cheddar shake that we put on popcorn that is to DIE for. Cabot introduced it years ago, calling it ‘Shake’. They discontinued it, and there was so much hell raised (including yours truly) that they re-launched it under a different name. They still sell it to this day...
