This one is going to overshadow the other perfect games this year.

In an honorable world someone would hand this guy a Luger and say,”Let me hear some interesting news about you tomorrow.”
There are umps who would insist they were right - even with the evidence staring him in the face.
This is one of the worst calls I have ever seen in baseball. The kid touched the base two steps before the runner got there. Horrible! This could significantly change the game.
One of the guys on ESPNews said, the worst call ever. I’m trying to think. The wolrd series call was bad and affected an entire team.
Agreed. Clearly, a WS screw up is much bigger than this one game.

That's why this admission is garbage - he WAS confronted by themanager and team and the replay evidence on the field, and he refused to change his call.
Apologizing now, after he knows his refusal to speak the trugh did it's destruction, is just a perverted gloating on his part - not an apology. It's not enough that he did what he did - now he's trying to get everyone to forgive and accept him for doing what he knew was wrong.

So sad, too bad... good officiating is a part of obtaining a perfect game... just like good fielding. Many perfect games have been blown due to bad calls, I am sure.. this one is only noteworthy because it was the final out.
I hope not. If the Ump were on the take, as the Refs are in Basketball, I'd agree with you, though.
How was he confronted by instant replay on the field before the next pitch? It’s not legal to go to the replay in those situations.
This ump has been in the majors for 22 years and well respected. If he was on the take, it would have become suspect or known by now.
The ump acted ‘stupidly’.
In a situation like this, the runner is out even if he is two steps past the bag.
The ump should have asked for help from the other umps and the crew chief should have over-ruled.
