This one is going to overshadow the other perfect games this year.

In an honorable world someone would hand this guy a Luger and say,”Let me hear some interesting news about you tomorrow.”

At least he owned up to his mistake...doesn't change the fact that the kid lost his - likely once in a lifetime - perfect game.

There are umps who would insist they were right - even with the evidence staring him in the face.

This is one of the worst calls I have ever seen in baseball. The kid touched the base two steps before the runner got there. Horrible! This could significantly change the game.

I hear that the Yankees want this ump to do their post season games this year. LOL!

So sad, too bad... good officiating is a part of obtaining a perfect game... just like good fielding. Many perfect games have been blown due to bad calls, I am sure.. this one is only noteworthy because it was the final out.

The ump acted ‘stupidly’.

In a situation like this, the runner is out even if he is two steps past the bag.

The ump should have asked for help from the other umps and the crew chief should have over-ruled.

Here's Joyce driving home after the game.

If we get three perfect games in one month, I’d say MLB has a bigger problem than trying to cancel the All-Star game in Phoenix for their illegal alien pals. Once we start getting a perfect game every week, they really don’t mean anything anymore. Everybody does it.

Jim Joyce has single handedly ushered in instant replay.

How do you make that call? In that situation?

Unbelievable.

I think this is going to result in a lot more calls for instant replay in baseball in almost everything except balls and strikes. Given the number of cameras at the game today they could station an additional umpire in a TV monitor room for this very purpose, similar to what the NFL does now.

I do know that despite the traditionalists at FIFA, they are studying the idea of instant replay, especially now with the wide availability of HDTV and standardized camera positions thanks to the fixed sized of the pitch.

Who was the lead ump on the field. Why was the call not overturned? I’ll bet 3 other umps saw the call was wrong.

With such an obvious screw up and with absolutely nothing at stake, the Commissioner of Baseball should overrule the umpire. Just my 2 cents.
