PITTSBURGH -- A large fight broke out in West Park on Pittsburgh's North Side and ended up in the streets late Wednesday afternoon.
The brawl carried across North Avenue and continued near the corner of Monterey and Jacksonia streets in the Mexican War Streets neighborhood.
Paramedics said four people were taken to hospitals for minor stab or slashing wounds, while a fifth was treated for a cut on the hand and a sixth said she would go to the hospital on her own for treatment of a head injury
"People got stabbed, including my mother and my sister and my goddaughter, which is 14 years old," said one witness.
Channel 4 Action News saw a black wig lying in the middle of the street in the 1500 block of Monterey after the fight.

When I saw that on the news last night I laughed my butt off. It appeared to be a female Amish skirmish.

LOL. That’s the crucial detail, right there. That wig picture should be on the frontpage of every newspaper in America.

"Mexican neighborhood?"
Maybe someone knows why that area in the north side of Pittsburgh is called the Mexican War streets, but there aren't a lot of Mexicans in Pittsburgh. So I'm not sure how it got it's name. Kind of a weird name though...

No, “Mexican War Streets” is a historic area in the North Side named for the Mexican-American Wars of the 19th century.

It’s actually been rather gentrified lately, with strict guidelines about home architecture, etc. However, the surrounding North Side population is more traditionally urban.

Go figure.
With the number of cities with large Hispanic populations, it seemed logical. There are places in Buffalo I won’t drive through unless it’s the middle of the day, the doors are locked, and I have no choice.
Too bad LaNova’s is on the west side.......

No names in the article, but this comment says it all...
“...A blade was recovered at the scene, while others were also pepper-sprayed, reported Edwards.
“Ghetto is the word for it. That’s ridiculous. Now I can’t even see,” said a second witness...”

Thanks for that info. Perhaps Barry should have taken Felipe Calderon on a tour of the Mexican War streets and let him read the street signs of Generals and battles from the Mexican American war to remind him that we won the Southwest fair and square. If we have to do it again, we can...
One other thing, in the history section of the link, it said this:
"In 1848 General William Robinson, Jr. (later Mayor of Allegheny) plotted out the Mexican War Streets immediately following his return from the Mexican-American War, which annexed Texas and California."
One thing that is wrong about this statement is that we did not annex Texas from the Mexican American War. Texas won it's Independence from Mexico in 1836 at the battle of Santa Jucinto. They were a Republic from 1836 - 1846 when they joined the United States.

Sorry to be a grammar snob, it should read:
“who is 14 years old,” said one witness.
