NEW YORK (AP) -- The Manhattan district attorney's office is reopening the decades-old case of a missing 6-year-old boy whose photo was the first to be put on a milk carton.
Etan Patz (AY'-tahn payts) vanished May 25, 1979. He was last seen walking two blocks from his lower Manhattan home to a bus stop for the ride to school.

Why do you think a 6 year old child that’s been missing for decades is a joking matter? I think it’s inappropriate. Some parents hearts were broken. It’s never a joke.

His family still must suffer horribly. I just can’t imagine the depth of pain.

A happy ending story: a man that I knew had a child stolen in infancy. Forty something years later, the child found the parents.
There's alway hope.

I was thinking the same thing....what is funny about this?

I just can’t imagine what h*ll it must be to send your child off to school and just never see them again. That has to be the worst thing I can ever think of is just not knowing what happened....

They made a movie loosely based on Etan’s story: “Without a Trace” (1983) staring Kate Nelligan.
The ending scenes of that movie brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it.

I agree. I find these posts to be disturbing and an embarrassment to Free Republic.
