I dont watch TV, but I own a few series on DVD that I watch in order to avoid commercials and to watch on my own time.
Im looking for something that doesnt insult my spiritual or political (Christian Conservative) beliefs. And I dont want comedies that exist on juvenile sexual innuendoes.
I love and own the first five seasons of LOST and THE OFFICE. I have the first two seasons of 24, but quit when I saw that the producers are too cowardly to depict Muslim terrorists not backed by white corporate types as the bad guys. I also have BAND OF BROTHERS and the first 10 seasons of THE SIMPSONS.
I was thinking of getting the first season of SCRUBS except Im uncomfortable watching with my 16 year old daughter because of the frequent sexual situations.
I heard good things about CHUCK.
Any suggestions for a series I can get into?
You’re right, he was good. I didn’t recognize him at first, but the voice was familiar.
Pacific.
Homicide: Life on the Street
The Tudors.
Others from Netflix I have enjoyed:
MONK (suitable for older teens and adults and very funny and fun)
DEXTER-definitely not suitable for normal folks, lol, but I loved the books and the series.
The CLOSER, Mad Men and the Tudors-all currently running but DVDs of earlier seasons available.
Mad Men. It does have a lot of extramarital sex, but it’s never graphic. It does a great job of depicting the early 60’s accurately. The story line is captivating, and the acting is superb.
OTOH, I've watched a couple episodes of this and can't get into it.
Hogan’s & IDoJ are great.. emergency and Adam-12 I recall fondly, but really don’t want to relive them.
But I will second, third or whatever Burn Notice. And one I forgot: Leverage, with Timothy Dutton.
A good thing about LIFE is that they wrapped up most of the loose ends. I get a little bored with shows that keep one continuous thread going without ever solving it (like the Red John thing in THE MENTALIST).
Band of Brothers, if you haven’t seen it
Hutton.
The series starts up again June 20.
Olyphant was my least favorite character in Deadwood.
If you haven’t done 24, prepare for sleepless nights. It’s addicting. And mostly conservative.
By the way, do note that the Simpsons should have offended your conservative sensibilities. I’m not saying it isn’t funny though...
Probably Dexter would offend you, but MAN, it’s good writing and characterization.
No, I just thought Twin Peaks was way too weird. Now I AM weird and ordinarily would like a show that was strange, but TP was way over the top for me.
I recommend Season One of Friday Night Lights.
As far as I know, there is no Frasier set of DVDs. If I am wrong let me know — they’ve got a customer right here. I adore that show.
I second Battlestar Galactica. Excellent series; and I’m series.
I like Homicide. Miss it terribly.
War and Remembrance is still IMHO the best portrayal of the Holocaust and it's horrors, even more remarkable given the fact is was a Made-For-TV series.
