CUPERTINO, California, May 18, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computers, says his company will not be a party to the pornography industry and hopes that the iPad and iPhone revolution will help lead to a porn-free world.
Jobs reiterated his position in a heated e-mail exchange with Ryan Tate, a writer for Gawker.com, which follows news and gossip in Silicon Valley and elsewhere. Tate, who admitted that he was home alone and slightly inebriated at the time, took issue with a television ad calling the iPad a revolution and fired off an e-mail to Jobs.
If Dylan [American songwriter Bob Dylan is one of Jobs favorite musicians] was 20 today, how would he feel about your company? Would he think the iPad had the faintest thing to do with revolution? Revolutions are about freedom, Tate wrote, not expecting a response from Jobs.
However, Jobs did respond to Tate, triggering an e-mail duel. Yep, freedom from programs that steal your private data. Freedom from programs that trash your battery. Freedom from porn. Yep, freedom, responded Jobs. The times they are a changin, and some traditional PC folks feel like their world is slipping away. It is.
However, Tate accused Jobs of "imposing" his "morality" by having Apple forbid pornographic applications for iPad. I dont want freedom from porn. Porn is just fine! And I think my wife would agree, fired back Tate - who later said he regretted mentioning his wife.
Jobs shot back, You might care more about porn when you have kids.

Thanks for the clarification.
Totally aware of that. :o) I wouldn't buy a Mac for other reasons. My ex wife works at an Apple store and I sent her some standard video format file she couldn't open on her Mac...it's things like that .
>>Well you certainly do not understand Christianity.
Christ calls you to a 100% submission to his will in your life.
<<
It is to laugh. Christ calls on us to walk up to evil and face it down. It is cowardice to merely turn our face away from it.
>>That includes every facet, including political.
Which means in a nutshell, you fight for laws and actions, that reflect his will, not yours, in your own personal life, and in all those around you.<<
Christ believed in and fought for freedom — the infinite dignity from which springs all justice. Your bound ideas are a slap in the face to Christianity.
>>Your definition of Freedom is a cop-out from a Christian perspective.
I take it your Christianity isn’t 100%.<<
Your childish “If I close my eyes to Evil then it will go away” is the ultimate cop-out. You are no more Christian than a child who has never seen anything outside of Church.
Christ doesn’t need children like you in His battle against evil. He needs grownup men and women who can discern and decide.
I take it your Christianity is around 5% — the same as a child who recites verse without understanding it.
I’m surprised that an Apple user (of any device) would be so understanding...heh. Yes, I agree with you totally! I have spent much of my life upgrading my PC system - can’t imagine that with an Apple machine...
And Apple has such a stranglehold on the market that you'll have no choice but to buy the iFascist! Oh noez! We're doomed! At least it's not just the leftists who can manufacture outrage over any stupid thing.
>>Free will is still involved here.
There is no force.<<
Yep — it is a fascist perspective and people can subscribe to that philosophy or not, each according to their own ability to think.
Porn today, FreeRepublic tomorrow? Who knows what will offend Jobs.
I have no problem with that...and obviously Jim doesn't either. :o)
Bwahahahahaha! :o)
>>I’m not the one misusing the word Fascist.<<
Perhaps you need a refresher.
fas·cism (fa-sh’i(z’?m)
n.
1.
often Fascism
a.
A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.
b.
A political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government.
2.
Oppressive, dictatorial control.
He’s de facto forcing his morals on others by saying you can’t do “a” with my machine because I don’t think it’s right for you to. Not very moral.
I have a conscience and my own morals, already. Steve Jobs ain’t either.
He’s really one of the last folks I’d take advice on morals from given his business past and his own personality and how he deals with people. This is yet one more example.
...Apple requires application designers to adhere to a company policy that could be described as pro-family
THIS is the free market at work! Rather than cater to the lowest common denominator, Apple has chosen to deliberately exclude certain market segments it deems unworthy of its products. Just as the freedom of association innately requires a freedom to disassociate, so too does a free market necessitate that entities be allowed to refuse to do business with whom they choose.
If Steve Jobs keeps this up, my next phone, computer, and other technology purchases will almost certainly be Apple. And I say this as someone who has never purchased any Apple product before and was about to purchase a Droid phone next month. Apple may even be my next stock purchase.
The guts of my PC are nothing like when I bought it. Apple is just too restrictive for most things...my parameter requirements for a phone are minimal and the iPhone works great. A desktop or laptop is another story...
