CUPERTINO, California, May 18, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computers, says his company will not be a party to the pornography industry and hopes that the iPad and iPhone revolution will help lead to a porn-free world.
Jobs reiterated his position in a heated e-mail exchange with Ryan Tate, a writer for Gawker.com, which follows news and gossip in Silicon Valley and elsewhere. Tate, who admitted that he was home alone and slightly inebriated at the time, took issue with a television ad calling the iPad a revolution and fired off an e-mail to Jobs.
If Dylan [American songwriter Bob Dylan is one of Jobs favorite musicians] was 20 today, how would he feel about your company? Would he think the iPad had the faintest thing to do with revolution? Revolutions are about freedom, Tate wrote, not expecting a response from Jobs.
However, Jobs did respond to Tate, triggering an e-mail duel. Yep, freedom from programs that steal your private data. Freedom from programs that trash your battery. Freedom from porn. Yep, freedom, responded Jobs. The times they are a changin, and some traditional PC folks feel like their world is slipping away. It is.
However, Tate accused Jobs of "imposing" his "morality" by having Apple forbid pornographic applications for iPad. I dont want freedom from porn. Porn is just fine! And I think my wife would agree, fired back Tate - who later said he regretted mentioning his wife.
Jobs shot back, You might care more about porn when you have kids.

I am not pro-porn, but, hey Jobs! It ain’t your call you fascist.
If someone sells me a pen and I do nude sketches that is no one’s damn business.
Hey, it’s Steve Jobs. He knows what’s best for you. Like the one-button mouse.
Hey, it’s Steve Jobs. He knows what’s best for you. Like the one-button mouse.
Porn is disgusting. Good for Jobs. It’s not “fascist” to create a product that reflects your values. You sound like a typical leftist sophmore. Perhaps the /sarcasm tag was omitted?
...or the double-posted post.
If Apple has invented a computer that won’t receive or display porn..more power to him. You don’t need to buy an Apple. A company has the right to engineer their product they way they want it..just as long as they tell people what they are buying.
I don’t need porn because I have an incredibly hot wife and a libido that doesn’t quit. Besides, if all that fails, Steve Jobs can’t stop my active and vivid imagination.
My gawd, what will all the attractive, uneducated high school beauties do after they graduate? I mean, they have to pay their texting, piercing and tattoo bills!
It’s Jobs’ product...if you don’t like it without the porn, don’t buy it.
Then you can make a choice - don’t buy his products.
I, on the other hand, like what he says. Though I’ve never bought any Apple products in the past, I just might buy one of these newer items.
This will hurt sales to women.
>>You sound like a typical leftist sophmore. Perhaps the /sarcasm tag was omitted?<<
And you sound like a typical fascist (without spell check no less). Need control much? Your way or no way.
I know your type — more nannyism - By Government if possible, private if need be. Impose your ideas on as many people as possible.
Freshman Fascist.
Actually, color me impressed.
Never thought I’d hear something moral from Steve Jobs.
Yeah this is sure great allowing Steve Jobs to decide what I can and cannot see on my computer. When he bans Free Republic from the iPad because it’s “incendiary” or “anti-government” I’m sure it will be for my own good. In Steve Jobs I trust.
I wish ALL Apple products would eliminate access to porn.
It’s Apple’s product and Apple has a board and must eventually deal with anti-trust issues.
What if Microsoft banned porn or anti-abortion sites by modifying Windows?
>>Then you can make a choice - dont buy his products.<<
And that is my choice.
But it still smacks of technological fascism. It is like a TV that won’t broadcast Bravo or a pen that won’t sketch Venus de Milo.
But that seems to work for the Thought Police here.
Who defines porn? What other categories of media will Apple censor?
