The official German news agency today bitterly criticized what it described as "aimless nightly bombing" by the Allied air forces of the German frontier areas back of the German lines. The raids were described as "a crime against a peaceful civilian population" and "blow for blow" reprisals were threatened. I see that 70 years later the same guys are still writing press releases for Hamas. Substitute Palestinian for German and Israeli for Allied.

I find it educational that back in 1940 the press saw the German penetration better than the French and Allied leadership. Today, they would have been too busy covering for Renaud, Deladier, and Gamelin to see it.

One final item for today from
The Blitzkrieg Legend. Today the Maginot Line was attacked though only on the periphery. The position hit was designated Fort No. 505 on the left flank of the line. What ensued was an example of the dangers of being over-entrenched and was a tragedy for the French soldiers occupying that position.
Fort No. 505
