A British actress took center stage in the Roman Polanski case on Friday, holding a press conference to say the famed director forced her to have sex with him when she was 16 years old.
Charlotte Lewis, who appeared in Polanski's 1986 film "Pirates," told reporters that the Oscar-winning director "forced himself" upon her in 1982 in Paris as they worked on the film.
Lewis did not report the incident at the time in 1982, and it's unclear why she chose to hold a press conference now.
Lewis, now 42, alleges the incident occurred in a Paris apartment. The legal age of consent in France is 15, according to French law.

Maybe statutory rape perpetrated in France is a serious crime, unlike a simple case of statutory rape in the U.S.
Perhaps Polanksi should just run to China. Then thirty years later, he could be tried for the infraction in France. And then we’ll find that he committed an act in China too, and he could run from that to South America, perhaps Russia.
He is such a gifted director though...

I believe 16 is the age of consent in the UK (it is 15 in France where Polanski lives, ditto Poland where he was born).

She is a very beautiful yet very obscure actress. I do have one DVD with her in it called “Excessive Force”. In all honesty, most of my favorite actresses are obscure and definitely not “A-listers”.
‘Age of consent’ is irrelevant when the key words are ‘forced himself on her’. That twisted, little pervert.

Well...she is 42. Not that there’s a damned thing wrong with that but...even a Halle Berry pic can have her looking guilty if snapped in just the right way. Just sayin’.
Lets see, given her age at the time this would be classified as just plain old rape if it is true.
Why did she wait 26 years to make a complaint, and then make it in a press conference instead of to the police?
I am thinking that she wants a bit more publicity rather than has a serious case.
