Was just watching Laura Ingraham on O'Riley. They were discussing the socialist/redistributive nature of "universal health care", and when the fact that Canadians live on average three years longer than Americans was brought up, she said it wasn't necessarily due to them having better health care...and then she said
"We have guns".
I'm still in shock.
When did she turn anti gun?
And if she's not, what the heck is she thinking.

a facetious sense of humor.
She is not being facetious. The stats on longevity include the hundreds of people killed (mostly youths in inner city crime ventures). That statistic lowers our life expectancy by 3-5 years at least.

I don’t know about more, but different. I like their 12” barrel limit on rifles as opposed to our 16” minimum limit before it becomes a Title-II item. Their ability to import Norinco M14’s is also a point of envy. While not as good as springfield M1A’s, the price is lower. At least they used to be.

According to information disseminated by the American Association of Suicidology (AAS), in 2006, suicide was the third leading cause of death among African American youth ages 10 through 19 after homicides and accidents. Lack of helathcare has nothing to do with the 3 top causes of death amongst African American "yooths".
We had 17,000 murders in 2008 and a total of 2.2 million deaths. 17k murders would not significantly lower the average life expectancy. What lowers it is the hodgepodge of ethnicities and I will wager you can pick any ethnicity in the US and they would be equivalent or higher to any other region of the US.
This is the elephant in the room. Eliminate the stats on black on black, illegal hispanic on hispanic, etc. crime and we have a realtively safe society compared to other countries. There are relatively few white on asian or vice versa crimes. And white on black crimes are rare and sensational enough to warrant NATIONAL media coverage.

Isn’t the Norinco receiver supposed to be the same as the original M14? I heard that Taiwan acquired the milling equipment for the receiver from the US and the rest of the rifle is a POC. I would love to have a few just to rebuild from US Milspec parts.
I wonder how the statistics look when restricted to white Canadians and white Americans.

What she was saying is the same that Rush said when the UN report first came out. They figured our life expectancy at much lower than any other industrialized nation because they included murder (by firearm) as a factor...not just natural causes or disease.
She’s correct. The AVERAGE life-expectancy in America IS less because of gun deaths.
BUT:
Almost all the gun murders are drug dealers shooting other drug dealers.
Ergo: No problem.
If you correct for drug dealers and for the greater distances Americans drive, our life-expectancy is the best, or nearly the best, in the world.
In the counties won by Obama, murders are over 12 per 100,000 per year.
In the counties won by McCain, murder are about 3 per 100,000 people per year.
The figures for abortions, child abuse, and other unhealthy, vicious, deviant behavior are similar.
What I like about Laura’s show: Lots of funny soundbites.
What I don’t like about Laura: The almost-constant note of sheer disgust. I realize that disgust, horror, shock, and revulsion is just about the full gamut of emotions one CAN feel in Washington under Soetoro, but...
