"General Robert E. Lee was, in my estimation, one of the supremely gifted men produced by our Nation. He believed unswervingly in the Constitutional validity of his cause which until 1865 was still an arguable question in America. . ."

Okay, this northerner admires Robert E. Lee.

My question for you is, why are you spamming FR with blog excerpt after blog excerpt? You already spammed FR yesterday on the same topic. Maybe you could have piggybacked onto that same thread?

Don’t forget that fun loving, whimsical, Willy T. Sherman.

Well, I see it every single day on Free Republic, that if we fight a war, we should do it all out, no holding back.

That was Sherman. He certainly understood that war is Hell.

“BTW, I couldn’t give a rat’s ass about your BA. You’ve demonstrated your ineptitude here beyond the salvage of that magic piece of paper.”

I have one as well. Don’t be so quick to dismiss it. Some of us are still taught American history. ;)

What? I don’t think your comment should have been directed to me.

Unless you think your BA is the deciding factor in a discussion rather than the strength of your argument, that comment wasn’t directed at you.

Constitutionally:

TX, HI, VT and CA as sovereign entities before their acquisition to the US, can leave unilaterally. No vote necessary. If the state legislature were to pass a secession bill, they could leave.

GA, SC, NC, VA, PA, DE, MD, NY, NJ, MA, CT, RI and NH, as the original 13 colonies, could vote either as a whole or in part to leave. Arguably, with a majority this would mean the dissolution of the US. The following would then occur with a majority:

TN would have to compensate the state of North Carolina. MS and AL would have to compensate Georgia, for the central part, SC for the far northern strip, and the 13 for the Gulf coast. ME would have to compensate Massachusetts. WV, KY would have to compensate Virginia.

So they would have to reach agreement with these respective states.

Now, the remainder of the US states would also have to reach agreement with the original 13, either through a payment split 13 ways, to purchase claims from the 13 or through mutual agreement. These individual states could then decide either to remain independent, or to re-incorporate as the United States of America.

With a minority of the 13 leaving, they would split off unilaterally if they chose to go, and the remainder of the US would compensate them for their claims on their respective states. Say if Georgia alone were to leave, they would be compensated for the central portion of AL and MS.

This is part of the reason why the South was formed the way that it was, basically you had a vote of VA/GA/NC/SC going against the US, so only 4 of the 13. Had MD/DE gone, that would have been 6/13 which means that if one of PA/NY/NJ/CT/RI/MA or NH left, that the US would have dissolved. This is also why it was so important for Lincoln to keep MD and DE, because if they left he had to hang onto the other 7.

Oh.

My.

God.

You have to understand...I don’t watch television...at all. I haven’t for years. THAT left me speechless! “What’s a war without cannonballs?”

That was a bit of culture shock for me.

I'm sorry but you are simply wasting our time here.

Given the juvenile nature of your posting which consist of an over reliance on ad homine attacks and emotional statements of opinion present as "fact", it is impossible for anything think adult mind to to take your ignorant rants seriously

You are in way way way over your competency level on this issue.

Nice you have feelings, unfortunately for you feelings are not facts. Learn the difference.

Hmm, I’m really unsure about the West. Texas ceded it’s claim to the US, so if they left unilaterally, they would only keep what they have now.

If the US were to dissolve, Texas would have to be compensated by WY, CO, UT, OK, NM (for about half the state). The creation of both Utah and New Mexico territories had to be approved by Texas.

I just have one question. What about California? Their eastern border was not well defined. I’m trying to figure out if the Republic ceded that territory to the US, or if the US at the time defined the border for California. I really don’t know.

I’ll let my posts stand on their own. I’m not interested in your projections anymore. Further posts from you will be met with silence... except in the unlikely event you somehow manage to formulate an argument worthy of comment.

One final note... clearly, your BA wasn’t in English. Apart from demonstrating a firmer grasp of the subject, proper spelling and syntax would greatly improve your credibility.

Wrong. There are many scholarly (that is, written by other than elitist Yankee oligarch university professors) works, which document the history of increasing selective tariffs on export products of the South.

Name one.
