If this works it could help to make the Obama Administration , lame stream media, the EPA and the NO-DRILLER ENVIROS (like John Kerry and his well timed energy bill release) look more "chicken-little silly" than they already do now.

Hay seems expensive, wouldn’t straw work as well?

Makes sense. Hay absorbs oil - washes ashore - you rake into piles and burn. Repeat as required. Seems like these guys are verifiable environmental engineers. Maybe they will be awarded a Nobel? No way, they didn’t graduate from the ivies and they think Castro is evil. Can’t have bad trash picking up Nobels.

If this works, it will be outlawed by the EPA.

I kind of take offense at these two guys being called rednecks. They appear to be American businessmen to me.

You know, this might work. I can see the oil attaching itself to the hay and then by scooping up the hay could be burned or squeeze out the oil. Anyway containment might work.

I've been praying that someone would have the good sense to try this. I've also been praying for all the resorts along the Gulf to come up with a deal on discount rates for those who would be willing to spend their vacations with the effort. I'd consider working with straw and hay for a low rate, cleaning up the beaches and sea food from the Atlantic Side. I don't know why EVERY thing has to come from the government — federal or state. We're not totally helpless yet. It's economical, keeps resorts full, restaurants could offer discounts to working vacationers as well and for the greenies in the land — it's environmentally friendly. Nothing more abundant or cheaper than straw and hay.

Why can’t they use a no phosphate, no suddsing soap to break up the oil?

Like Amway’s LOC?

...and - some really enterprising science-type could figure out a way to condense the hay and straw into some type of re-usable fuel for cooking, heating, etc. and RECYCLE.

This could open up some fine jobs for those out of work and take the initiative away from government to spend more time analyzing and criticizing. It could save BP, et al. a ton of money and do the right thing. We need drilling.

Looks like it’s going to be an outstanding year for a friend of mine. He’s got 1200 acres of the stuff under cultivation right now!

It's not a new idea and I hope it works for them.

The big question is why the feds aren't taking charge of this and doing anything to stop the leak.

Also there has been a plan since 1994 for managing spills like this by using firebooms and burning the oil on site before it spreads.

Why aren't they doing it?

They start off shore with tug boats and barges spreading or blowing the hay over the oil.

Hey! There's gotta be something wrong with this idea... it's not like the stuff grows on trees... < /sarc>

That is amazing - American ingenuity at its best!!

No need for Gov’t or EPA (same thing) intervention - they seem to only make things worse anyway.
