A Round Lake Park woman was held in contempt and jailed for two days for the message on her T-shirt.
The message was: "I own the (female body part), so I make the rules."
Jennifer LaPenta, 19, was released from the Lake County Jail Tuesday.
"They should be out looking for people who are breaking the law, not arresting someone wearing a T-shirt," LaPenta said.
Associate Judge Helen Rozenburg charged LaPenta with contempt of court for wearing the garment in her courtroom Monday. LaPenta was sitting in the gallery waiting for a friend's case to be called when the judge called her forward.
Rozenburg asked LaPenta if she thought her shirt was appropriate.
LaPenta said she told the judge that it would have been inaprorpriate had she been the defendant.
Rozenburg immediately sentenced her to 48 hours in jail and had her cuffed, LaPenta said.
LaPenta contends that she never went to bond court or got to call her mother.
"They just threw me in jail. They never told me what I was going to jail for," LaPenta said.
LaPenta said that she had been at a gym Monday when her friend asked her for a ride to the courthouse. She was wearing sweat pants and that T-shirt when she was cuffed and jailed.
"All the officers thought it was hilarious -- it was humiliating," LaPenta said.
LaPenta said she bought the shirt in the gay section of Spencer's. She said she is openly homosexual and said the judge was a "homophobe" for putting her in custody for wearing the shirt.

She wasn't a defendant. She was only an observer. If the shirt was offensive, she shouldn't have been allowed to sit in the gallery. She should've been asked to leave. Allowing her to enter the courtroom, take a seat in the gallery and then arresting her for contempt seems just bit heavy-handed to me.
My brother, on the other hand, went before a judge on DUI charges wearing a Budweiser t-shirt. He received a bit of jail time he wasn't expecting.
She did not need a trial - guilty as charged - go directly to jail.
Guilty! Tho the punishment was a bit light for a crime of this magnitude.

ROFL. You might be a redneck if... Can’t make this stuff up.
Suz in AZ in #17 may have the answer!
And throw away the key.
I’m guessing that despite the headline and reporting that the contempt was more for the sass than the shirt.
Nice one!
Women (like Michelle Obama, Susan Boyle...etc) don’t understand how important eyebrows are for shaping the face and coloring expressions. A bad eyebrow job can leave one’s face looking angry, perplexed or perpetually surprised. She needs to get a new aesthetician.
Not very bright... But here’s one for you. This girl I know of was arrested for DWI. She was on her way home after dropping off her boyfriend at his house. She called her boyfriend to come bail her out. He got to the police station drunk and was also arrested for DWI. Not sure which of the two were dumber.
Lucky for her this did not happen to her in AZ. She may have had to show her [GASP] ...... papers!
I work in SW Texas and ALL, I Mean ALL the Latino women’s eyebrows look like that. Age is not a deterent either....
I can tell in this photo, that the shirt was more than just a slogan. It says “PUSSY” in HUGE letters across most of it’s real-estate.
Not court appropriate, even as a guest.
GUILTY!
I saw this t-shirt in shops in Key West last summer. I thought “what kind of woman would wear that shirt?” Now I know.
You went to jail for obama class stupidity.
