I've seen a flood of mostly unbranded 7" mini notebooks via online retailers priced at $89.95 - $125. Has anybody got any feedback on these little guys??
I’ve seen ads for them, but have yet to actually find a place to buy one for that price. It seems to be an internet bait and switch deal much like the “Obama wants moms to go to college!!!” which sends you to nowhere except spam sites.
Give an example. Most of these have only a couple of gb of total storage off of flash memory. I would stay away from any that run from the Windows CE that is found on some of them.
Whether it is a good value depends on what you want to use it for.
I must plead guilty to chasing down these bottom dollar deals but heck I’ve seen the premium stuff fail to perform as well!
ACER is an IBM clone, and a good one. My first desktop was an ACER. It and my Gateway, I would consider the best!
They seem to be of most value for getting email while traveling.
Not enough CPU power for playing video without some skips but might be ok for a 3hr flight.
* Processor Type: VIA ARM 32bit CPU
* Processor Clock Speed: 300M Hz
* RAM Installed Size: 128M
* Operating System: WinCE
That’ll fail to perform alright!
The MSI Wind, EEEPC, or Acer Aspire One should run you under $300 now just about everywhere and if you find a deal, you might be able to get one for around $200. I doubt you’ll find much less than that yet though.
I’m just an email and light applications user so no problems there. They have a 2 GB flash harddrive.
Obummer promised High Speed internet to everybody for free!
(ditch the Anti-virus and other assorted junk, get avira or similar.) If you find you need more oooph later, you can always upgrade the ram, and the 120 gb hard drive likely will outlive any need you'll have.
I was happy with mine ... until you said what you did.

I use an Acer laptop. I am very happy with it. I had been using HPs but after having two go bad just after the warranty ran out, I am not touching an HP laptop again for quite some time.
Do these have any usb ports?
These are basically PDA’s with bigger screens. Avoid like the plague.
Nice and portable, runs Linux, but the keyboard is uncomfortably small and the 7" screen resolution is weird.
Thanks. I might want to buy one just to send designs to my embroider machines but since they run by usb the port is important.
OOPPPSS embroider=embroidery
I got one for my son, I had an extra monitor lying around so when he has it at the desk he just simply plugs it in there. Also got a USB keyboard cheap to use as well.
