EMP could leave '9 out of 10 Americans dead'
WorldNetDaily ^ | May 3, 2010 | Joseph Farah

Posted on 05/04/2010 5:12:37 AM PDT by Tolerance Sucks Rocks

There is renewed alarm about the possibility of an EMP attack – electromagnetic pulse – on the United States because of Iran's work on a multi-stage Space Launch Vehicle, according to a report from Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.

And experts forecast if such an attack were a success, it effectively could throw the U.S. back into an age of agriculture.

"Within a year of that attack, nine out of 10 Americans would be dead, because we can't support a population of the present size in urban centers and the like without electricity," said Frank Gaffney, president of the Center for Security Policy. "And that is exactly what I believe the Iranians are working towards."

A recent launch of an SLV by Iran has sparked renewed concern of an attack that could send an electromagnetic pulse powerful enough to wipe out computer controls for systems on which society has come to rely, officials say.

As the G2 Bulletin reported last week, Ronald Burgess, director of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency, revealed that Iran successfully launched a multi-stage SLV, the Simorgh. The device ultimately could be equipped with a nuclear bomb, which the U.S. intelligence community assesses Iran is developing.

Officials also report Iran has been testing detonation of its nuclear-capable missiles by remote control while still in high-altitude flight...

I wonder what percentage of people can actually replace and set points these days. I think I could still do it, and I still have a timing light.

Don't forget the nail file and feeler gauge.

>>I can contest that those in-land, breezeless summer days are absolutely Hell!

Yes for sure. Ugh. That is why I only did it for a summer. The same outfit contacted me again for a contract the next summer and I declined and went back to hopping around the desert. I might have turned into beef jerky in AZ or NM, but anything to get away from that humidity.

I also never took another job working on the New England shoreline in single-digit temps during the winter.

90% of Americans dead? Come on.

Let one big crisis happen and all the other wackos will come out of their holes to cause more trouble. Monkey see, monkey do. That UT Austin prof, Pianki, teaches his students (many muslim) that 90% of the human race needs to be killed off and a good way would be through eboli.

Mayflower, consider getting a Sun Oven. sunoven.com As long as there are sunny skies, it reaches temperatures of 350 to 400 degrees. Also, invest in an $8 WAPI, a low-tech water purification indicator. With the Sun Oven, a WAPI, and some sun, you can cook food and pasteurize water. These two products are saving a lot of lives in third world countries.

Our winter here in FL was colder than I ever remember, and I can’t imagine the temps up north of here. I’m thin-blooded and actually enjoy the humidity to a point. When it approaches 100 with 100% humidity, I thank God for AC!

Never been to the drier heat either, so I can’t really say if I prefer one over the other.

As I understand it, 50,000 feet would not be high enough to induce a massively destructive EMP event. You need a lot more altitude so that when the neutrons from the detonation hit the top of the atmosphere it induces what’s known as the “Compton Effect” which basically fires a massive EMP straight down at the ground.

As I understand it, the Compton Effect was first verified as a result of some of the first atmospheric weapons tests out in the Nevada desert, when a significant portion of the Las Vegas electrical grid was fried.

Tubes are fragile is a different way than micro electronic circuits are today. You can generate electricity by passing a coil of wire through a magnetic field. Conversely, if you generate a massive electro-magnetic field around anything that acts like a coil, such as an integrated circuit board, the power surge instantly fries the whole board.

Recall the speculation about the Toyota gas pedal problems?? One of the things that is being looked at very closely, is what happens when you drive a Toyota car computer underneath an overhead high tension line. Those lines do in fact generate a powerful electro-magnetic field, and may very well be perfectly capable of zapping an electronic device if you pass through it in just the right way.

Now we’ll have Nintendo’s that don’t work, and Facebook being down...not a chance.

Facebook being down would be a great thing. There's always a silver lining!

Houses aren’t built nowadays with cross ventilation and high ceilings in mind for summers without AC.

Sledge hammer rentals will skyrocket.

survival rate. Well under 50% in the city opposed to upwards of 70% in rural America.

And that’s a bad thing? Sagpants, comeyets and wannabes rightfully should be first in line.

Food in the midwest can't be harvested.

Yeah, Americans will just sit in their recliners and complain. Thank goodness for illegals 'cause they'll pick lettuce from sun up to sun down and cart it into market for us.

Fine, but how many of those are going to be lying around, and if someone has one, are they going to let others use it, and what would they do to make sure somebody doesn’t just take it?

How many acres do you think can be planted and harvested by the average farmer with a museum moldboard plow and a mule? If of course they can get those things.

I hope you guys are right, cause if you aren’t, it won’t be pretty.

Yea Yea, I am well versed in everything you mentioned. I still think the threat is way overplayed. Even at 50,000 you cannot “see” the whole country. If what you say is absolutely true the military’s use of flux generating weapons on Iraq should of blacked out ALL of Baghdad and it didn't. I will take field evidence.

Я говорю Вам, что это, должен быть конец

Не побеждайте меня

A rouge nation would have to do the type of EMP attack you mentioned. You would need a launch vehicle capable of space flight and the ability to travel thousands of miles, the technology to create a several megaton blasts, lots of nuclear material (more than almost every country), etc...

My book about a small group of terrorists, creating localized terror. Heck, the coordinated conventional terror attack (water, transportation, and electricity) I describe that happens in Chicago is scary enough. ;^)

The two EMP bombs in the book send Manhattan back two hundred years and cripple Washington, DC. All regional and localized.

Look the Starfish nuclear test in 1962 knocked out power in Hawaii a thousand miles away.
