31 habits of an Old School Man
Oldschoolman ^ | James G.

The green army locker in the basement filled with old war souvenirs is a classic Old School Man possession. And Walt is no exception, he has his War Chest filled with great B&W pictures of him in Korea with his Army buddies, metals and the guns he was issued.

As expected his grand-kids don’t even know about his service (their grandfather was awarded the Silver Star and they don’t know!!) or even where Korea is.

Warning - foul language in this article, but great nonetheless.

So many great lines in that movie. “I used to stack slopes like you five high and use them for sandbags.”

I went and read the article. I loved the movie, but the writer is wrong. The character played by Clint Eastwood doesn't change his ways and learn his "racist" views of the neighbors was wrong. He never was racist to begin with--as shown by how he treats his friends the dago barber and the mick contractor. He treats people the way they deserve to be treated. And the neighbors earn his respect, he doesn't change.

Walt drinks Pabst blue ribbon straight from the can, not pumpkin and chestnut stout. Even better he keeps it in a beer chest at his feet.

Drinking PBR does not make one a man, it makes one a victim of the pisswaterization of American brewing post-prohibition. Thankfully, that era ended.

Drinking pumpkin stout does make you a pussy. Drinking oatmeal stout, or pale ale or a nice doppelbock or a wheat beer on a hot summer day makes you a man of discerning taste who refuses to give in to mass-produced swill.

I think the kid (I’m assuming it’s a kid) who writes the blog about Old School Man is on track but needs a little mentoring himself. He’s right that part of the problem is that there are not enough of us teaching young men not to be f’in p***ies.

Sounds like swill to me, but to each his own.

If you weren't a lady, I'd have to punch you.

I was just messing with you. I sure as heck wouldn't want to get in to a pissing match over what beer tastes like to someone else. I happen to like Pabst in an ice cold mug. I'm fortunate I have very cheap taste buds! lol

I just thought you were like that dago barber, and we were doing what men do. Little did I know you were a kraut from Milwaukee.

I remember a time, long ago, when PBR was considered premium beer, for when we were tired of Falstaff.

Yep, we used to buy the short fill cases of Pabst to drink at our high school parties via older brothers. I was glad to see they brought Pabst back. Now Schlitz is another matter, I hated that salty slime! lol

I liked Falstaff when I had it. Isn’t that from around NY?

Schlitz and Blatz were down there with Falstaff. Then Busch. After that, you could argue between Miller, Budweiser and PBR. For a while, people thought Coors and Olympia were the tops; turns out they were just less common, not better.

Sitting on the porch with a cooler, it should be a can of something American, I will grant you.

I make my own these days. Is that old school? I have an amber ale fermenting right now, can't wait to get it bottled. When I don't have my own brews handy, there are a few specialty beers that are very good, if you are into that. And if PBR is good enough for you, you will save a lot of money over a lifetime.

Falstaff is from St. Louis. My friend’s family used to own a piece of it.

Nice comeback. Yeah, I like my American swill just fine.
