Is it possible to actually "love" an animal- like a cat or dog? Any Freepers love their pet? How about those with non-traditional pets? Anyone love their cow, horse, snake or pig?
Lol! The last thread mysteriously vanished. Maybe the dog ate it :D
Have you thought about piano?
It's more like a curious, selective infatuation. It's likely directly related to the need the animal has to be near us that draws us to them. It's rather ego driven, I suspect.
“It has been hard for me to deal with the death of a pet.
When I had to put them down I shed some tears.”
A few years back, my Black Lab of 12 years finally couldn’t live without pain and I had to bring her to the vet for a shot...I found out why he called it “putting her to sleep”...while I held her she gave out a big contented sigh, just like she used to at the end of the day when she curled up at the foot of the bed, went limp and went to sleep for the last time. She was my last dog.
Remember Mr. Bojangles?
“He danced for those
at minstrel shows and county fairs
throughout the south
He spoke with tears of 15 years of how his dog and him
just traveled about,
His dog up and died,
he up and died,
and after 20 years he still grieves...”
I used to think it was corny. Maybe I’m getting old.
Well, the one’s I eat don’t sleep on my bed every night, but the do have big brown eyes that melt your heart....
You ask an obvious question unless you’re asking a perverted question, in which case I have no time for it.
If you haven’t seen people who love their animal as a member of their family you haven’t seen an elderly person all by themselves save their animal. Or countless other ways people end up with animals, taking care of them, being affectionate to them. Grieving when they die, or knowing they have to be put down. The loss is real. We mourn the loss of something that brought so much joy into your life, just by being there, now isn’t there. And we miss it greatly. Most people can’t do that. It is a real gift to be able to bring joy to people just by being there.
My animals were all abandoned, some twice. My home is their forever home. They are animal members of the family. They will be defended as family members.

Reason did returneth to her throne?
Would you allow your daughter run into traffic in order grab one of your dogs?
Aw, what a cutie!
There’s a boxer in my life, although I don’t own him...He’s the most ill-behaved, obnoxious animal I’ve ever met, but that face gets me every time; they are adorable!
THAT I can agree with.
I love one of my dogs, the American Mastiff. The other two I like a lot. I bought the mastiff for my husband for his birthday 6 years ago, it was the dog he had wanted all his life, since he was 10 yo and first knew one in his neighborhood. He often said that dog was the best birthday gift he had ever been given.
When my husband died three years ago, the dog was at his side the entire time. I don’t think I’ll ever forget the mastiff’s devotion, and every day I hug the dog, and thank God he’s mine. But — he is a dog. I own him, now. I’m human, he’s not.
I was never the alpha in our house, my husband was; however, I freely order the dog around and as expected, he obeys. That would never work with a real man. ;-D
There are some missing ‘to’s there, I believe...
What a cutie patootie!
Yeah that whole post was starting to getting out of hand. Surprised it lasted as long as it did.
Where the hell does that come from? First of all, my daughter has more sense than to play in traffic and my dogs stick by her and me. Some of us are responsible parents. You might let your kids play around traffic, I don’t.
they are clowns, adorable ones at that. Ours are well behaved though. Depends on the owner of course but they are always the sweetest dogs.
That would be a 'yes'. Coco, an East Village Maltese.
