"After the completely heinous behavior I have heard about in DC schools from this very newspaper, I'd say it's high time they instituted paddling in DC schools too!!!"

It didn’t hurt our generation — spare the rod, spoil the child.

And make sure you Say! The! First! Middle! and! Last! Name! With! Every! Swat!

Thanks to DaMav for this one. I am ambivalent about this subject. Some teachers enjoy the power too much, including some in Dynachrome's earlier years.

I disagree. I do not want teachers to be paddling. that is up to the parents to discipline their children. However, children who are so out of control, need to be suspended, the parent told they must spend a day in classes with their child when he/she returns or they stay suspended.

If that doesn’t work, send them off to the streets....Oh, wait...this is an entitlement society so we will have to pay either way.

Somebody has to do it. Most "parents" I know these days tell me that they are afraid of their own children. Weird.

Reminds me of the old George Sanders movie from the 60s. "The Village of the Damned".

I’m conflicted on this one, not over the issue of paddling, but over the thought of a libtard teacher paddling my conservative child for some perceived crime that the libtard teacher dreamed up. I might have to go up to the school and whoop somebody’s ace.

I remember every one I received and they were usually delivered by 120Lb Nuns. Saved my life growing up in a rough town.

“It didn’t hurt our generation”

In those days, teachers deserved respect. I’m not sure they do anymore.

I’d NEVER give any kind of green light to even the idea that teachers should be allowed to paddle students; the very notion is ridiculous, even with the most troublesome students, who should just be booted out until they shape up.
Teachers generally are already indoctrinating on all levels, and instilling too much PC and feelgood crap, but even as a countervailing force to THAT, paddling is just NO GOOD. My daughter’s been done with her schooling for several years, but if I’d found out ANY of her teachers paddled her, I’d go in there and probably rip up the classroom.

When a parent paddles, love is behind every swat. When a teacher or principal paddles, there are any number of motives behind each swat.. rarely love.

I would vote for the kid getting sent to the principal, who calls the parents, and gives them the opportunity to properly discipline their own child in whatever way they see fit.

Not sure why the Post has this article today about the Temple Tx ISD bringing back coporal punishment into the school system. Temple did this back in May 09 to become effective with the fall 09 school term. Strange that the Post has dug this up today.

No. Discipline should be left to the parents. It's not the teachers' job.

If kids can't behave, kick them out. Expel them. Plain and simple. You can't force an education on someone but you can prevent them from disrupting the education of those who actually want to learn something.

If the parents are sick of their expelled children lounging around the house, maybe they'll take a more active roll in teaching them to behave. If an expelled child wants to return, it'll only be after extensive parent-teacher conferences and the kids may return under a probationary period where they are expected to adhere to more stringent rules than the kids without behavior problems. If the behavior continues, kick them out for good.

I'm serious about this. So much teaching time is squandered dealing with classroom misbehavior and we're cheating the good kids who actually want to learn something and whose parents have instilled in them the value of an education.

...but over the thought of a libtard teacher paddling my conservative child...

The only teacher I recall that followed through on paddlings was a staunch conservative. The type you fear adminisetering paddlings don't have the guts. I remember one that went and got the female head of the department to remove a kid from his class because he wouldn't leave when told. Teacher looked like the wuss that he was.

I don't think paddling is appropriate at school....save it for home. But.....

Teachers have got to have some sort of disciplinary power. Even keeping kids after school has become almost non existent. The parents of the most troublesome children are the ones that want to take it to the courts if little Johnny thinks the teacher "doesn't' like him".

On the other hand, schools have got to quit being so dumb about calling in the police if a kindergartner sticks his tongue out at the principal or suspend a high school girl for having Midol in her backpack.

Aw heck, I give up...the whole system is out of whack!

Texas has bucked a national trend toward
eliminating corporal punishment in schools.
(Tom Fox/Dallas Morning News)

According to TASB, there are 92 public school districts in Texas that prohibit corporal punishment and 470 that allow for it - there are also hundreds of districts with their own unique policies.

Them Mom and Dad buy little Johnnys story, blame the teacher for the problem, and go out for ice cream.

Problem solved, right?
