Good luck to you. Most of the reports are saying that the volcanic ash mess is moving towards the southern part of Europe and some of the northern areas (Sweden, Scotland) will be planning to lift their flight restrictions sometime on Saturday.

It's a huge mess and you'll need to prepare for major delays over the weekend. They are saying it's worse than the flight delays after 9/11 (BBC). If you can, you might want to consider alternative ways to travel (rail).

Seems to show no flight activity north of Italy.

The volcano in Iceland is throwing up clouds of ash, some as high as 50,000 feet. Passenger planes cannot fly through these clouds without serious endangerment. Pilots are refusing to fly. Could last for weeks.

Best bet is to take rail transpo down to Italy and fly a southern route to US.

Prayers up for all the stranded people.It is a nightmare.
