Low Vitamin D help (vanity)
Self | 4/16/2010 | Self

I need some help and I thought freepers could help.

My daughter has low vitamin d due to anti-seizure medication she is taking.

We are giving her 4000 IU of D3 every, but her levels have only gone from 19-24 (under 30 is deficient), and we've been supplementing for over a year.

Our pediatrician is not sure what to do.

My daughter is also symptomatic of low Vitamin D. This past year she has gotten lots of colds, her allergies are worse, and her problems with asthma are significantly worse.

I know there have been lots of posts about problems with low levels of vitamin D on free republic, and I thought maybe some of you might have some suggestions on ways to bring up her levels.

We live in San Jose, California, and it has been raining a ton, so getting out in the sun is not an option currently.

Any suggestions for what to do would be appreciated.

You gave very good advice. Both my children and I are Celiacs. It kills our ability to absorb many nutrients.

I am also a celiac. I had to figure out for myself after decades of ill health.

I take a Calcium, Magnesium and Zinc, with Vit. D. everyday. I helps with the fibromyalgia. Need to add a Vit E, but it’s just too many pills, along with the 4 Fish Oil.

50,000 per week for 4 weeks is what my doctor has prescribed, it is not out of the ordinary. I take one pill every Sunday.

If you live far enough south, spend 10-20 minutes a day in the sun with as little on as possible.

Grew up in southern Texas....plenty of sun...no vitamin D issues...but now I get precancerous skin lesions removed every 6 months..... GRIN....really!

Do not use a suntan salon unless you want her to get skin cancer. Again, Direct Sunshine !!

How is UVA and UVB radiation from the sun different than those absorbed in a tanning booth?

I break mine up half in the AM, the other in the PM.

I too have Fibromyalgia and can’t take that horrid side effect riddled Lyrica. I also have Osteo A, and Osteo P of the hands, Osteo A of 4 disc.

I take 2 1,000mg fish oil, 1 flax seed, 1 plant sterol, 1 probiotic, 2 calcium, 2 1000mg D’s, 1 400mg E, 2 Collegan, 1200mg B 12. Along with my Synthroid, baby asprin an. My synthroid raises my Cholestrol artificially.

5 Mg Valium to sleep with...works wonders on the Fibromyalgia!

Don’t stay out in the sun long enough to get a tan or burn. After the 10-20 minuets put on tan lotion. I’ve had skin cancer 2x’s no lesions the real deal, I lived most of my life around DC.

Sorry the Lyrica hasn’t worked for you. It has been a life saver for me. I take Effexor and Lyrica together and even my friends have seen the difference. I was doing great until I broke my leg in December. But I’m slowly returning to normal.

It attacked every OA joint in my body, pain level went from a 5 where it normally is, to a 15 in about an hour. Took nearly 6 weeks to get 2 50 mg of the Lyrica out of my system and the Fibro Flair to stop. I have a lot of bad reaction to drugs, OA ones especially.

Hope leg heals well.
